Abstract

A computer system comprises servers running application programs which are controlled, at least in part, by configuration parameters. The parameters are updated by first updating a database of configuration parameters, and then automatically updating the servers in accordance with the database updates to automatically maintain synchronization between the server configuration and the database.

Claims

1. A server manager operated by a web hosting provider, the server comprising:

a database storing a plurality of application program configuration parameters, wherein each application program configuration parameter is associated with an application program; and

a dispatch module for providing at least some of the application program configuration parameters to one or more network servers hosting the associated application program.

4. A method comprising:

storing at least one database table of application program configuration parameters, wherein each application program configuration parameter is associated with an application program operated by the web hosting provider;

maintaining a queue of requests to modify the table of application program configuration parameters; and

dispatching at least a portion of the application program configuration parameters to a server that is hosting the application program.

8. A method of managing a server operated by a web hosting provider comprising:

storing a database table of application program parameter fields, wherein each application program configuration parameter is associated with an application program hosted by the server operated by the web hosting provider;

receiving data from a customer of the web hosting provider for entry into an indicated one of the fields;

entering the received data into the indicated field of the database table; and

routing the indicated field to other network servers.
