Abstract

A wet shaving system is disclosed including a blade member and a skin-engaging portion in proximity to said blade member, the skin-engaging portion comprising a solid polymeric shaving aid composite including an exposed portion containing a water-soluble shaving aid dispersed in a water-insoluble polymeric matrix, the water soluble shaving aid being coated with mineral oil.

Claims

1. A wet shaving system comprising a blade member and a skin-engaging portion in proximity to said blade member, the skin-engaging portion comprising a solid polymeric shaving aid composite including an exposed portion containing a water soluble shaving aid dispersed in a water-insoluble polymeric matrix, at least a portion of the water soluble shaving aid being coated with mineral oil.

2. The wet shaving system of claim 1 wherein the blade member and skin-engaging portion are mounted on a housing of a razor cartridge.

3. The wet shaving system of claim 1 wherein the skin-engaging portion comprises an elongated strip.

4. The wet shaving system of claim 1 wherein the mineral oil is present in a concentration of about 2% to about 6% based on the total weight of the water soluble shaving aid.

The wet shaving system of claim 1 wherein the shaving aid composite is formed from a composition comprising (a) about 20 to about 35% by weight of the water-insoluble polymer, (b) about 40% to about 75%, by weight of a lubricous water soluble polymer, and (c) about 2% to about 6% of the mineral oil, the concentration of mineral oil being based on the total weight of the water-soluble shaving aid and the concentrations of the two polymers being based on the total weight of the composition.

6. The wet shaving system of claim 1 wherein the mineral oil is present in a concentration, based on the total weight of the composition, of about 0.1% to about 1.5%.

7. The wet shaving system of claim 1 wherein the shaving aid composite includes a base layer and a surface layer, the surface layer having a relatively higher concentration of mineral oil than the base layer.

8. The wet shaving system of claim 1 wherein the water-soluble shaving aid is spray coated with mineral oil.

15. The wet shaving system of claim 1 wherein the mineral oil is present in a concentration of about 4% to about 6% based on the total weight of the water soluble shaving aid.

16. The wet shaving system of claim 1 wherein the mineral oil is present in a concentration, based on the total weight of the composition, of about 0.1% to about 1.5%.

17. The wet shaving system of claim 1 wherein the shaving aid composite includes a base layer and a surface layer, the surface layer having a relatively higher concentration of mineral oil than the base layer.

9. A method of manufacturing a shaving aid composite comprising:

coating a water-soluble shaving aid with mineral oil;

mixing the water-soluble shaving aid with a water-insoluble polymer; and

forming the mixture into a solid shaving aid composite shaped to be retained by a receiving portion of a razor cartridge.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the forming step comprises extrusion.

11. The method of claim 9 wherein the forming step comprises injection molding.

12. The method of claim 9 wherein the forming step comprises forming a base layer having a first composition and a surface layer having a second composition.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the second composition has a relatively higher concentration of mineral oil than the second composition.

14. The method of claim 12 wherein the base layer and surface layer have different colors.

18. A shaving aid composite comprising:

a water-insoluble polymeric matrix; and

dispersed within the water-insoluble polymeric matrix, a water soluble shaving aid, the water soluble shaving aid comprising a water-soluble polymer, at least a portion of the water-soluble polymer being coated with mineral oil.

19. The shaving aid composite of claim 18 wherein the mineral oil is present in a concentration of about 2% to about 6% based on the total weight of the water soluble shaving aid.

20. The shaving aid composite of claim 18 wherein the water-soluble shaving aid is spray coated with mineral oil.
