Abstract

The present invention has an objective of providing an optical disk having a high resolution picture and a system for reproducing data on the optical disk, which are compatible with a conventional system for reproducing an ordinary resolution picture. A high resolution signal is divided into a main signal and a sub signal by picture division means and MPEG-encoded. The main signal and the sub signal are divided into frames each having 1 GOP or more. The resultant first interleave block 54 and second interleave block 55 are recorded alternately on an optical disk. A high resolution reproduction apparatus reproduced both the first and second interleave blocks, so that a high resolution picture is obtained. A non-high resolution reproduction apparatus reproduces only the first or second interleave block, so that an ordinary resolution picture.

Claims

1. A method for reproducing a three-dimensional video by decoding a code string obtained by encoding a moving picture representing the three-dimensional video, comprising:

a detection step of detecting a three-dimensional video identifier indicating whether there is a code string including contents of a three-dimensional video;

a step of obtaining information indicating whether the code string is field-encoded;

a step of decoding a code string of even field having one of parities from the code string;

a step of decoding a code string of odd field having the other parity from the code string;

an output step of outputting each of the decoded even field and the decoded odd field;

when the three-dimensional identifier is detected in the detection step and the information indicates that the code string is field-encoded, a synthesis step of determining the even field as one of a left-eye video signal and a right-eye video signal, and determining the odd field as the other of the left-eye video signal and the right-eye video signal, delaying one of the fields, synthesizing the fields and reproducing the three-dimensional video.

2. A method for reproducing a three-dimensional video according to claim 1, wherein the detection step is performed at the beginning of reading the recorded code string.

3. A method for reproducing a three-dimensional video according to claim 1, further comprising the step of switching the even field between the right-eye video signal and the left-eye video signal.

4. A method for reproducing a three-dimensional video according to claim 2, further comprising the step of switching the even field between the right-eye video signal and the left-eye video signal.
