Abstract
One aspect of the invention is a method of treating a wound to clot blood. A sponge material is applied to the wound. The sponge comprises a starch having hemostatic properties and at least one binding agent. The sponge may further comprise a porous, flexible material.

applying particles of a pregelatinized starch to a bleeding wound.

an adhesive portion to attach the bandage to the skin of a patient; a depressible plunger that may be depressed after the bandage has been applied to apply downward pressure on a wound wherein the depressible plunger may latch in the depressed position; a sponge material attached to the plunger directly or indirectly comprising at least a hemostatic material.

3. A hemostatic bandage comprising:

a bandage support comprising at least a wound portion and at least first and second tab portions; a hemostatic agent attached directly or indirectly to the wound portion; an adhesive coating on at least a part of each of the first and second tab portions; wherein the first and second tab portions are configured such that they will be in tension with the wound portion when attached to skin using the adhesive in such a manner so as to cause a force on the wound portion that is at least partially downward in the direction of the wound.

4. A hemostatic bandage comprising:

a bandage support comprising at least a wound portion and an adhesive portion; an absorbent hemostatic pad material attached directly or indirectly to the wound portion; wherein the adhesive portion allows the bandage support to be secured to skin; and a tab in contact with the hemostatic pad material that prevents the hemostatic pad material from contacting a wound until the tab is moved.
