Device and method for sealing puncture wounds
First Claim
1. A method for sealing a puncture in a blood vessel separated from the skin of a patient by a layer of tissue, said layer of tissue including a tissue channel communicating between said puncture and the patient'"'"'s skin, said method comprising:
- inserting a charge of hemostatic material in the form of a resorbable material into said tissue channel; and
advancing said hemostatic material through said tissue channel to a position adjacent the wall of said blood vessel in a manner such that said hemostatic material is never freely exposed within the lumen of said blood vessel during said advancement.

Abstract
A device is proposed for inserting hemostatic material through a tissue channel and against the wall of a blood vessel of a patient, wherein the blood vessel wall has a puncture therein adjacent the tissue channel. The device includes a charge of hemostatic material and a hollow sheath adapted to pass through the tissue channel, the sheath having a cross sectional profile larger than the puncture. The device places the hemostatic material in the hollow sheath and advances the hemostatic material through the sheath to the vessel wall around the puncture.

5. A device for inserting hemostatic material through a tissue channel and adjacent the wall of a blood vessel of a patient, the blood vessel wall having a puncture having a predetermined width therein adjacent the tissue channel, the device comprising:
-
a charge of hemostatic material in the form of a resorbable material;
a hollow insertion sheath for introducing said hemostatic material into the tissue channel, said insertion sheath having a cross-sectional profile larger than the predetermined width of the puncture; and
advancing means for advancing said hemostatic material through the tissue channel to the vessel wall adjacent the puncture, whereby when said hemostatic material is advanced to the vessel wall, said hemostatic material is never freely exposed within the lumen of the blood vessel during said advancement. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8)
