Abstract

An access point device that is adapted to a wireless network and a wired network is disclosed. The access point includes a transceiver to receive wireless frames from a plurality of wireless devices of the wireless network, respectively, and at least one component to process information extracted from the wireless frames and to control channel scanning based upon at least one of an amount of wireless device traffic and a type of call.

Claims

1. An access point device adapted to a wireless network and wired network, comprising:

a transceiver to receive wireless frames from a plurality of wireless devices of the wireless network, respectively; and

at least one component to process information extracted from the wireless frames and to control channel scanning based upon at least one of an amount of wireless device traffic and a type of call.

2. The access point device of claim 1, wherein the at least one component includes a processor and a memory.

3. The access point device of claim 1, wherein, if the amount of wireless device traffic is determined to be greater than a scanning threshold, channel scanning is stopped.

4. The access point device of claim 3, wherein, the scanning threshold is approximately 500 frames of wireless device traffic within approximately one second.

5. The access point device of claim 1, wherein, if the type of call is voice call, channel scanning is stopped.

6. The access point device of claim 1, wherein, if any one of the plurality of wireless devices are determined to be in a power-save mode, channel scanning is stopped.

7. The access point device of claim 1, wherein, if the amount of wireless device traffic from a wireless device is determined to be above a changing threshold, channel changing is stopped.

8. The access point device of claim 7, wherein, the changing threshold is at least one frame of wireless device traffic received from the client device within approximately one minute.

9. A method comprising:

receiving wireless frames from a plurality of wireless devices of a wireless network, respectively;

processing information extracted from the wireless frames;

transmitting the information to the wired network; and

controlling channel scanning of the wireless network based upon at least one of an amount of wireless device traffic and a type of call.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein, if the amount of wireless device traffic is determined to be greater than a scanning threshold, further comprising stopping channel scanning.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein, the scanning threshold is approximately 500 frames of wireless device traffic within approximately one second.

12. The method of claim 9, wherein, if the type of call is voice call, further comprising stopping channel scanning.

13. The method of claim 9, further comprising determining if any one of the plurality of wireless devices are determined to be in a power-save mode, and if so, stopping channel scanning.

14. The method of claim 9, further comprising determining if the amount of wireless device traffic from a wireless device is above a changing threshold, and if so, stopping channel changing.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein, the changing threshold is at least one frame of wireless device traffic received from the client device within approximately one minute.

16. An access point device adapted to a wireless network and wired network, comprising:

a transceiver to receive wireless frames from a plurality of wireless devices of the wireless network, respectively; and

a processor to process information extracted from the wireless frames and to control channel scanning based upon at least one of an amount of wireless device traffic, a voice call, and power-save modes.

17. The access point device of claim 16, wherein, if the amount of wireless device traffic is determined to be greater than a scanning threshold, channel scanning is stopped.

18. The access point device of claim 17, wherein, the scanning threshold is approximately 500 frames of wireless device traffic within approximately one second.

19. The access point device of claim 17, wherein, if the type of call is voice call, channel scanning is stopped.

20. The access point device of claim 19, wherein, if any one of the plurality of wireless devices are determined to be in a power-save mode, channel scanning is stopped.

21. The access point device of claim 16, wherein, if the amount of wireless device traffic from a wireless device is determined to be above a changing threshold, channel changing is stopped.

22. The access point device of claim 21, wherein, the changing threshold is at least one frame of wireless device traffic received from the client device within approximately one minute.
