Abstract

Particular embodiments of the present invention are related to a digital media benefit attachment mechanism for generating or attaching revenue rights and other benefits to one or more entities associated with socially distributed media.

Claims

1. A method comprising

receiving, from a remote host, a request associated with a content object;

generating content-embedding code comprising machine-readable instructions operative, when executed, to cause a processor to;

access the content object; and

access a script operative to cause the processor to dynamically generate and present a hyperlink identifying a network addressable advertiser resource, wherein the hyperlink, when activated, is operative to cause the processor to access the network addressable advertiser resource; and

transmitting a response to the remote host, wherein the response includes the content-embedding code.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the content embedding code further comprises a content owner identifier, and wherein the script is operative to cause the processor to encode the content owner identifier in the hyper link.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the content embedding code further comprises a content embedding entity identifier, and wherein the script is operative to cause the processor to encode the content embedding entity identifier in the hyper link.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the script is further operative to cause the processor to access a remote system for information used in dynamically generating the hyperlink.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the script is further operative to cause the processor to access the content object and render the content object on a display.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the script is accessed from a remote system.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the request is a request for the content object, and the response includes the content object.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the script is operative to cause the processor to

access one or more attributes of an underlying page from which the script has been loaded;

use one or more accessed attributes of the underlying page in dynamically generating the hyperlink.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein the script is further operative to cause the processor to access a remote system using the one or more accessed attributes in dynamically generating the hyperlink.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein one attribute of the one or more accessed attributes comprises a tag embedded in the page.

11. The method of claim 9 wherein one attribute of the one or more accessed attributes comprises text contained in the page.

12. The method of claim 10 wherein the remote system is an ad search system.

13. The method of claim 1 further comprising

determining a user identifier associated with the request;

adding the user identifier as a content embedding entity identifier to the content embedding code.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein the script is operative to cause the processor to encode the content embedding entity identifier in the hyperlink.

15. The method of claim 1 wherein the content embedding code is further operative to cause the processor to display the content.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein the script is further operative to cause the processor to display the hyperlink adjacent to the content.

17. The method of claim 15 wherein the script is further operative to cause the processor to render the content as clickable region, which, when clicked, is operative to cause the processor to access the network addressable advertiser resource.

18. The method of claim 1 wherein the content embedding code comprises HTML code.

19. The method of claim 1 wherein the script comprises JavaScript.

20. The method of claim 1 wherein the script is further operative to cause the processor to

access one or more tags associated with the content object in the content-embedding code;

and

transmit the one or more tags to a remote system operative to select and return a network addressable advertiser resource from a plurality of network addressable advertiser resources based, at least in part, on the one or more tags.

21. The method of claim 1 wherein the hyperlink, when activated, is operative to cause the processor to access the network addressable advertiser resource in a redirection process with a remote server.

22. The method of claim 1 wherein the script is further operative to cause the processor to dynamically generate a second hyperlink operative, when activated, to cause the processor to access a search system.

23. The method of claim 22 wherein the script is further operative to cause the processor to access one or more tags associated with the content object;

and wherein the second hyperlink is configured to include the one or more tags.

24. The method of claim 13 wherein the hyperlink, when activated, is operative to cause a remote system to generate a benefit to the content embedding identifier.

25. The method of claim 24 wherein the benefit is a monetary award.

26. An apparatus comprising

a memory;

one or more processors;

logic encoded in one or more tangible media for execution and when executed operable to cause the one or more processors to;

receive, from a remote host, a request associated with a content object;

generate content-embedding code comprising machine-readable instructions operative, when executed, to cause a processor to;

access the content object; and

access a script operative to cause the processor to dynamically generate and present a hyperlink identifying a network addressable advertiser resource, wherein the hyperlink, when activated, is operative to cause the processor to access the network addressable advertiser resource; and

transmit a response to the remote host, wherein the response includes the content-embedding code.

27. A method comprising

receiving, from a remote host, a request associated with a content object;

generating content-embedding code comprising machine-readable instructions operative, when executed, to cause a processor to;

access a script operative to cause the processor to access and present the content object;

dynamically generate a hyperlink identifying a network addressable advertiser resource, wherein the hyperlink, when activated, is operative to cause the processor to access the network addressable advertiser resource; and

transmitting a response to the remote host, wherein the response includes the content-embedding code.

28. The method of claim 27 wherein the hyperlink is embedded in an activatable region of the displayed content object.

29. An apparatus comprising

a memory;

one or more processors;

logic encoded in one or more tangible media for execution and when executed operable to cause the one or more processors to;

receive, from a remote host, a request associated with a content object;

generate content-embedding code comprising machine-readable instructions operative, when executed, to cause a processor to;

access a script operative to cause the processor to access and present the content object;

dynamically generate a hyperlink identifying a network addressable advertiser resource, wherein the hyperlink, when activated, is operative to cause the processor to access the network addressable advertiser resource; and

transmit a response to the remote host, wherein the response includes the content-embedding code.
