Abstract

Document of medication administration is provided by a clinician acknowledging previous clinical results such that the previous clinical results are used for documentation purposes. A command is received to document the administration of a medication to patient. Based on the command, it is determined that documentation of the medication administration requires entry of information regarding at least one clinical result for the patient. Additionally, it is determined that a previous clinical result is available for documentation. The medication administration is then documented using the previous clinical result.

Claims

1. A method in a clinical computing environment for documenting administration of a medication to a patient, the method comprising:

receiving a command to document the administration of the medication to the patient;

determining that documentation of the administration of the medication requires entry of information regarding at least one clinical result for the patient;

determining that at least one previous clinical result is available for documentation; and

using the at least one previous clinical result for documentation.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein determining that at least one previous clinical result is available for documentation comprises determining that at least one previous clinical result is sufficiently recent to be used for medication administration purposes.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein determining that at least one previous clinical result is available for documentation comprises determining that the at least one previous clinical result is stored in an electronic record associated with the patient.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein using the at least one previous clinical result for documentation comprises accessing the at least one previous clinical result from the electronic store.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein using the at least one previous clinical result for documentation comprises presenting the at least one previous clinical result.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein using the at least one previous clinical result for documentation comprises receiving user input acknowledging the at least one previous clinical result.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein presenting the at least one previous clinical result comprises providing a time corresponding with the at least one previous clinical result.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises presenting a timeline view showing one or more times when the medication is scheduled to be administered to the patient.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises presenting a trend of previous clinical results related to the at least one clinical result.

10. One or more computer-readable media embodying computer-useable instructions for presenting a graphical user interface for documenting the administration of medication to a patient, the graphical user interface comprising:

a documentation area allowing the entry of information regarding the administration of the medication to the patient; and

a related results area showing at least one previous clinical result related to the administration of the medication, wherein the at least one previous clinical result may be acknowledged by a clinician and used for documentation of the administration of the medication to the patient.

11. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 10, wherein the graphical user interface further comprises a timeline view area indicating when the administration is scheduled to be administered to the patient.

12. One or more computer-readable media embodying computer-useable instructions for performing a method for documenting administration of a medication to a patient, the method comprising:

receiving a command to document the administration of the medication to the patient;

determining that documentation of the administration of the medication requires entry of information regarding at least one clinical result for the patient;

determining that at least one previous clinical result is available for documentation; and

using the at least one previous clinical result for documentation.

13. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 12, wherein determining that at least one previous clinical result is available for documentation comprises determining that at least one previous clinical result is sufficiently recent to be used for medication administration purposes.

14. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 12, wherein determining that at least one previous clinical result is available for documentation comprises determining that the at least one previous clinical result is stored in an electronic record associated with the patient.

15. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 14, wherein using the at least one previous clinical result for documentation comprises accessing the at least one previous clinical result from the electronic store.

16. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 15, wherein using the at least one previous clinical result for documentation comprises presenting the at least one previous clinical result.

17. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 16, wherein using the at least one previous clinical result for documentation comprises receiving user input acknowledging the at least one previous clinical result.

18. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 16, wherein presenting the at least one previous clinical result comprises providing a time corresponding with the at least on previous clinical result.

19. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 12, wherein the method further comprises presenting a timeline view showing one or more times when the medication is scheduled to be administered to the patient.

20. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 12, wherein the method further comprises presenting a trend of previous clinical results related to the at least one clinical result.
