Abstract

Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment, a method of designing a basis selection for matching pursuits is described

Claims

1. A method of successive basis masking for digital data divided into at least four sub bands by applying a wavelet transform, said method comprising:

repetitively selecting a basis for one of said at least four sub bands.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said bases are selected at a particular bit rate.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein said bases are selected at a particular bit rate to achieve a substantially peak PSNR.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said selecting further comprises selecting successive bases for said sub bands regardless of the particular sub band for the next successive basis selection.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein a successive basis of said successive bases for a sub band are selected at a particular bit rate to achieve a substantially peak PSNR if used for coding with the other selected bases.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein said selecting continues until a desired number of bases have been selected.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein said selecting is performed for every number of bases from 1 to a maximum.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said sub bands comprise more than four sub bands.

9. An article comprising:

a storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, if executed, result in execution of a method of successive basis masking for digital data divided into at least four sub bands by applying a wavelet transform at least as follows;

Repetitively selecting a basis for one of said at least four sub bands.

10. The article of claim 9, wherein said instructions, if executed, further result in said bases being selected at a particular bit rate.

11. The article of claim 10, wherein said instructions, if executed, further result in said bases being selected at a particular bit rate to achieve a substantially peak PSNR

12. The article of claim 9, wherein said instructions, if executed, further result in said selecting further comprising selecting successive bases for said sub bands regardless of the particular sub band for the next successive basis selection.

13. The article of claim 12, wherein said instructions, if executed, further result in a successive basis of said successive bases for a sub band being selected at a particular bit rate to achieve a substantially peak PSNR if used for coding with the other selected bases.

14. The article of claim 12, wherein said instructions, if executed, further result in said selecting continuing until a desired number of bases are selected.

15. The article of claim 12, wherein said instructions, if executed, further result in said selecting being performed for every number of bases from 1 to a maximum.

16. The article of claim 9, wherein said instructions, if executed, further result in said sub bands comprising more than four sub bands.

17. An apparatus comprising:

a computing platform;

said computing platform being adapted to successively basis mask digital data if said digital data has been transformed into at least four sub bands;

said computing platform being further adapted to repetitively select a basis for one of said at least four sub bands.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein said computing platform is further adapted to select said bases at a particular bit rate.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein said computing platform is further adapted to said bases select at a particular bit rate to achieve a substantially peak PSNR

20. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein said computing platform is further adapted to select successive bases for said sub bands regardless of the particular sub band of the next successive basis selected.

21. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein said computing platform is further adapted to select, if used for coding with the other selected bases, said successive bases at a particular bit rate to achieve a substantially peak PSNR

22. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein said computing platform is further adapted to perform bases selection for every number of bases from 1 to a maximum.
