accessing data within the data transmission using a communications protocol wherein an initial portion of the data transmission defines a structure of the data transmission such that subsequent data in the data transmission is directly accessible without additional decoding.

Abstract
A method, system and type of database for transmitting data is disclosed in which the data is organized into a structured linear database. The structured linear database includes a routing header portion, a file allocation table, a data portion and a tailbit portion. The structured linear database may be transmitted over any type of network, such as a TM-UWB system or a fiber-optic system. Once the data to be transmitted is identified, a corresponding field is identified in the field allocation table giving the location of the data within the transmission. This field is then referenced by the user to access the specific type of data desired at the given location of the transmission. this process may be repeated enabling data to be stored on transmission lines and accessed at any point at any time providing an always on network.

13. A new method of transmitting data from a master to a user, the method comprising:

understanding the type of data to be transmitted from the master;
accessing the data stored by the master;
creating one or more fields corresponding to the type of data to be transmitted;
writing a linear file allocation table giving the name of the field and location within a transmission at which the field contents start and stop;
transmitting the linear file allocation table to a user;
transmitting the data from the master to the user at the location indicated in the linear file allocation table; and

determining a type of data being requested;
