1. A method of configuring a mobile communication between a position determination entity and a mobile device, comprising the steps of:
- a. indicating to the position determination entity that the mobile device has an ability to perform a positioning system search simultaneously with a communication; and
b. setting a preferred response quality indicator to a state that will allow the mobile device an extended period to provide location data about the mobile device to the position determination entity when the mobile device has the ability to perform a positioning system search simultaneously with a communication.

Abstract
In a method of configuring a mobile communication between a position determination entity and a mobile device, an indication that the mobile device has an ability to perform a positioning system search simultaneously with a communication is sent to the position determination entity. a cellular communications transceiver; a positioning system receiver; a processor coupled to the cellular communications transceiver and coupled to the positioning system receiver, the processor configured to control operations of the mobile device; and a global positioning system capability field that stores information about whether the mobile device is capable of communicating over a cellular communication channel simultaneously with communicating over a positioning system channel, wherein the processor is configured to set a bit in a global positioning system capability field and transmit the field via the cellular communications transceiver. - View Dependent Claims (21, 22)
