Abstract

The present invention is an improved shopping cart with retractable legs that allows the cart to be loaded into a vehicle while contents remain in the shopping cart basket.

Claims

1. A shopping cart comprising;

(a) a basket region;

(b) a handle;

(c) vertical members extending downward from said basket region;

(d) wheels attached to the ends of said vertical members;

wherein said vertical members retract in a rotational manner towards the user.

2. The shopping cart of claim 1, wherein said vertical members are hingedly attached to the lower back side of said basket region.

3. The shopping cart of claim 1, wherein said vertical members pivot on a hinge such that they retract into a position underneath said basket region.

4. The shopping cart of claim 1, wherein said vertical members retract into a position without need to unload contents stored in said basket region.

5. The shopping cart of claim 1, further comprising a lock and release mechanism whereby the user may lock said vertical members into a downward position and retract said vertical members upon release of the lock.

The shopping cart of claim 1, wherein said vertical members further comprise a telescoping means such that said members telescopically compress when retracted such that the length of the retracted vertical members is equal to or less than the length of said basket region. So that it can be taller then bumper of the vehicle.

7. A system for loading a shopping cart into a vehicle without the need to empty the basket region said system comprising:

(a) A shopping cart comprising;

(i) a basket region;

(ii) a handle;

(iii) vertical members extending downward from said basket region;

(iv) wheels attached to the ends of said vertical members;

wherein said vertical members retract in an upward direction toward said basket region.

8. The system of claim 7 further comprising a track placed in the storage area of a vehicle whereby said tract engages said shopping cart and allows a shopping cart with items in the basket area to be loaded into a vehicle.

9. The system of claim 7 further comprising an attaching means whereby said shopping cart is attached to a track placed in the storage area of a vehicle whereby attachment is completed before loading said shopping cart with items in the basket region in order to prevent the shopping cart from inadvertently moving towards the user.
