1. A method for determining cell imbalance of a battery comprising:
- applying a charge current to a battery comprising a plurality of cell strings, wherein each of the plurality of cell strings comprises a plurality of cells;
comparing a voltage per cell of each cell in a first cell string of the plurality of cell strings with a safe voltage limit; and
disenabling charging of the first cell string of the plurality of cell strings if any voltage per cell in the first cell string is higher than or equal to the safe voltage limit.

Abstract
Embodiments provide a method and a system for determining cell imbalance condition of a multi-cell battery including a plurality of cell strings. To determine a cell imbalance condition, a charge current is applied to the battery and is monitored during charging. The charging time for each cell string is determined based on the monitor of the charge current. A charge time difference of any two cell strings in the battery is used to determine the cell imbalance condition by comparing with a predetermined acceptable charge time difference for the cell strings.

applying a charge current to a battery, wherein the battery comprises a plurality of cell strings; monitoring the battery charge current; counting a charge time for every cell string of the plurality of cell strings based on the monitoring of the battery charge current; determining a charge time difference between any two cell strings of the plurality of cell strings; and comparing the charge time difference between any two cell strings of the plurality of cell strings with a predetermined acceptable charge time difference for the plurality of cell strings of the battery, wherein a condition in which the charge time difference is greater than the predetermined acceptable charge time difference indicates a cell imbalance condition of the battery. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22)

23. A system for determining cell imbalance of a battery comprising:

a charger for providing a charge current to a battery comprising a plurality of cell strings, wherein each of the plurality of cell strings comprises a plurality of cells; a first series of voltage sensors connected to a first cell string of the plurality of cell strings, wherein each voltage sensor of the first series of voltage sensors connects to monitor a voltage of each cell of the plurality of cells in the first cell string; and an OR gate configured to receive a logical or of output from the first series of voltage sensors to control a charging process of the first cell string via a first switch. - View Dependent Claims (24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31)
