Abstract

A method of diabetes management, comprising (a) providing a remote communications unit in communication with a portable microprocessor-based unit; (b) transmitting blood glucose level data into the portable microprocessor-based unit or the remote unit, or both; (c) running a program of instructions on the portable microprocessor-based unit or on the remote unit, or both, using data corresponding to the blood glucose level data; and (d) providing a signal including instructions to inject insulin when the blood glucose level data indicates.

Claims

1. A method of diabetes management, comprising:

(a) providing a remote communications unit in communication with a portable microprocessor-based unit;

(b) transmitting blood glucose level data into the portable microprocessor-based unit or the remote unit, or both;

(c) running a program of instructions on the portable microprocessor-based unit or on the remote unit, or both, using data corresponding to the blood glucose level data; and

(d) providing a signal including instructions to inject insulin when said blood glucose level data indicates.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising signal coupling a blood glucose meter with said portable microprocessor-based unit from which said blood glucose data are downloaded.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising communicating a signal to advance to next treatment steps.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising checking blood glucose level as a result of running the program of instructions.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising selecting an insulin plan as a result of running the program of instructions.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising getting a menu of foods to eat as a result of running the program of instructions.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said program of instructions are configured such that said communicating of said signal to inject insulin when said blood glucose level data indicates occurs when said blood glucose levels do not remain in a predetermined range.

8. One or more processor-readable storage devices having program code embodied therein for programming one or more processors to perform a method of diabetes management using a system including a remote communications unit in communication with a hand-held microprocessor-based unit, wherein the method comprises:

(a) measuring glucose levels on a glucose meter;

(b) providing blood glucose level data based on the measured glucose levels into the hand-held microprocessor-based unit;

(c) running a program of instructions on the hand-held microprocessor-based unit or on the remote unit, or both, using data corresponding to the blood glucose level data; and

(d) providing a signal including instructions to inject insulin when said blood glucose level data indicates.

9. The one or more storage devices of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises signal coupling, a blood glucose meter with said hand-held microprocessor-based unit from which said blood glucose data are downloaded.

10. The one or more storage devices of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises communicating a signal to advance to next treatment steps.

11. The one or more storage devices of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises checking blood glucose level as a result of running the program of instructions.

12. The one or more storage devices of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises selecting an insulin plan as a result of running the program of instructions.

13. The one or more storage devices of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises getting a menu of foods to eat as a result of running the program of instructions.

14. The one or more storage devices of claim 8, wherein said communicating of said signal to inject insulin when said blood glucose level data indicates occurs when said blood glucose levels do not remain in a predetermined range.
