Abstract

A method of completing a transaction comprising the steps of: a customer remotely ordering a product from a provider; the provider sending an indicia to the customer, the indicia being representative of the product ordered; the provider sending authentication data to the customer for utilization as an authentication process at a point of transaction (POT); the customer displaying the indicia at the POT; and the provider reading the indicia at the POT.

Claims

1. A method of completing a transaction comprising the steps of:

a customer remotely ordering a product from a provider;

the provider sending an indicia to the customer, the indicia being representative of the product ordered;

the provider sending authentication data to the customer for utilization as an authentication process at a point of transaction (POT);

the customer displaying the indicia at the POT; and

the provider reading the indicia at the POT.

2. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the indicia is an animated format symbol.

3. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein

the displaying comprises displaying a plurality of indicia seriatim;

the reading comprises reading and decoding the plurality of indicia utilizing an indicia reader; and

the provider establishes a relationship of data provided in the plurality of indicia utilizing a portion of the data provided in each of the plurality of indicia.

4. A method of reading indicia according to claim 3, wherein the portion of the data comprises a structured append feature.

5. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the display is provided on at least one of the following:

a mobile phone;

a portable data terminal (PDT) and a personal digital assistant (PDA).

6. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein reading the indicia is accomplished with an optical reader.

7. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the indicia is an animation file provided in at least one of the following formats:

GIF, ANI, FLC, FLI, MNG, and SWF.

8. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the authentication data is a personal identification number (PIN).

9. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the authentication data is an encryption key

10. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the authentication data is stored in memory on the indicia reader.

11. A method in accordance with claim 6, wherein the authentication data is stored in memory on the optical reader.

12. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the indicia is encrypted and authentication data is an encryption key.

13. A transaction system comprising:

a first controller for remotely ordering a product from a provider;

a second controller for sending;

an information bearing indicia representative of the product ordered and authentication data to a display platform adapted to display the information bearing indicia at a point of transaction (POT), wherein the authentication data is utilized for authentication of the indicia at the POT; and

a reader for reading the information bearing indicia after the authentication.

14. A transaction system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the indicia is an animated format symbol.

A transaction system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the information bearing indicia is comprised of a plurality of indicia which are displayed seriatim and further comprising a controller adapted to establish a relationship of data provided in the plurality of indicia utilizing a portion of the data provided in each of the plurality of indicia.

16. A transaction system in accordance with claim 15, wherein the portion of the data comprises a structured append feature.

17. A transaction system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the display platform comprises at least one of the following:

a mobile phone;

a portable data terminal (PDT); and

a personal digital assistant (PDA).

18. A transaction system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the reader is an optical reader.

19. A transaction system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the information bearing indicia is formatted as an animation file provided in at least one of the following formats:

GIF, ANI, FLC, FLI, MNG, and SWF.

20. A transaction system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the authentication data is a personal identification number (PIN).

21. A transaction system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the authentication data is an encryption key.

22. A transaction system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the authentication data is stored in memory on the reader.

23. A transaction system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the information bearing indicia is encrypted and the authentication data is an encryption key.
