Abstract

An electronic device detachable antenna assembly comprises a connector member coupled to an electronic device and configured to receive an external antenna in pluggable engagement therewith, the antenna and the connector member movable between a stored position on the electronic device and an extended position relative to the electronic device.

Claims

1. An electronic device detachable antenna assembly, comprising:

a connector member coupled to an electronic device and configured to receive an external antenna in pluggable engagement therewith, the antenna and the connector member movable between a stored position on the electronic device and an extended position relative to the electronic device.

2. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the connector member is rotatably coupled to the electronic device.

3. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the connector member is configured to frictionally engage the antenna.

4. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the connector member and the antenna are contained within a profile of the electronic device when disposed in the stored position.

5. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the connector member and the antenna are disposable within an externally disposed recessed area when in the stored position.

6. The assembly of claim 1, further comprising a spacer interchangeably coupleable to the connector member in place of the antenna.

7. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the connector member is rotatably coupled to a peripheral location of the electronic device.

8. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the connector member and the antenna are pluggably engaged via a sacrificial extension.

9. A method of manufacturing an electronic device detachable antenna assembly, comprising:

coupling a connector member to the electronic device, the connector member configured to receive an external antenna in pluggable engagement therewith, the antenna and the connector member movable between a stored position on the electronic device and an extended position relative to the electronic device.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising rotatably coupling the connector member to the electronic device.

11. The method of claim 9, further comprising configuring the connector member to be pluggably engaged with the antenna via a sacrificial extension.

12. The method of claim 9, further comprising coupling the connector member to the electronic device to enable the connector member and the antenna to be contained within a profile of the electronic device when in the stored position.

13. The method of claim 9, further comprising providing an externally disposed recessed area on the electronic device to receive the connector member and the antenna when in the stored position.

14. The method of claim 9, further comprising rotatably coupling the connector member to a peripheral location of the electronic device.

15. An electronic device detachable antenna assembly, comprising:

a connector means coupled to the electronic device and configured to receive an external antenna means in pluggable engagement therewith, the antenna means and the connector means movable between a stored position on the electronic device and an extended position relative to the electronic device.

16. The assembly of claim 15 wherein the connector means is rotatably coupled to the electronic device.

17. The assembly of claim 15 further comprising sacrificial means for pluggably engaging the antenna means to the connector means.

18. An electronic device detachable antenna assembly, comprising:

an electronic device having a connector member coupled thereto; and

an external antenna in pluggable engagement with the connector member, the antenna and the connector member movable between a stored position on the electronic device and an extended position relative to the electronic device.

19. The assembly of claim 18, wherein the electronic device comprises an externally disposed recessed area for receiving the antenna.

20. The assembly of claim 18, wherein the connector member is rotatably coupled to the electronic device.

21. The assembly of claim 18, wherein the antenna is in pluggable engagement with the connector member via a sacrificial extension.
