In some embodiments, data is monitored over a time period, a statistic is generated relating to the data, and it is determined whether the statistic exceeds a threshold In some embodiments, monitoring comprises monitoring the cost of a product or the sales volume of a product over a time period. In some embodiments, statistics may be generating regarding an outlier in the data, a directional trend in the data, or variability of the data.
