Abstract

Feed usage information can be generated. Entries within an existing server log can be identified. The entries can correspond to user requests for a feed from a selected Website. Feed usage data from the identified entries can be identified. The feed usage data can be stored within the selected Website.

Claims

1. A method of generating feed usage data comprising:

identifying entries within an existing server log that correspond to user requests for a feed from a selected Website;

determining feed usage data from the identified entries; and

storing the feed usage data within the selected Website.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising modifying at least one operational parameter of the selected Website according to the feed usage data.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein identifying entries within a server log further comprises determining that an entry corresponds to a user request for a feed from the universal resource identifier specified by the entry.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein determining feed usage data further comprises identifying a user identity for each entry of the server log that specifies a request for a feed.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein determining feed usage data further comprises determining a number of requests, by at least one user, for a feed from the selected Website.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising selectively providing a notification of a content change on the selected Website to at least one user according to the feed usage data for that user.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein determining feed usage data further comprises identifying a folder of the selected Website from each entry of the server log that is identified as corresponding to a user request for a feed from the selected Website.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein determining feed usage data further comprises determining a number of times a particular folder was accessed.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein determining feed usage data further comprises:

identifying a user identity for each entry of the server log that specifies a request for a feed; and

determining a number of times a particular folder was accessed by a selected user.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising presenting feed usage data responsive to a user request.

11. A method of generating feed usage data comprising:

within an existing server log, identifying entries that correspond to requests for a feed from a selected Website;

determining feed usage data from the identified entries; and

modifying at least one operational parameter of the selected Website according to the feed usage data.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein determining feed usage data further comprises determining a user identity for each entry of the server log that corresponds to a request for a feed from the selected Website.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein determining feed usage data further comprises determining a folder that was accessed from each entry of the server log that corresponds to a request for a feed from the selected Website.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein modifying at least one operational parameter of the selected Website further comprises selectively enabling notifications to a user according to the feed usage data.

15. A computer program product comprising:

a computer usable medium having computer usable program code that generates feed usage data, said computer program product including;

computer usable program code that identifies entries within an existing server log that correspond to user requests for a feed from a selected Website;

computer usable program code that determines feed usage data from the identified entries; and

computer usable program code that stores the feed usage data within the selected Website.

16. The computer program product of claim 15, further comprising computer usable program code that modifies at least one operational parameter of the selected Website according to the feed usage data.

17. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the computer usable program code that determines feed usage data further comprises computer usable program code that identifies a user identity for each entry of the server log that specifies a request for a feed.

18. The computer program product of claim 17, further comprising computer usable program code that selectively provides a notification of a content change on the selected Website to at least one user according to the feed usage data for that user.

19. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the computer usable program code that determines feed usage data further comprises computer usable program code that identifies a folder of the selected Website from each entry of the server log that is identified as corresponding to a user request for a feed from the selected Website.

20. The computer program product of claim 15, further comprising computer usable program code that presents feed usage data responsive to a user request.
