Abstract

This invention relates to temples or end-pieces of temples for eyeglass frames. The temples are disclosed as having a wide variety of electrical and/or electronic components housed therein. Temples and hinges are also disclosed which attach to either the eyeglass frame itself or to the surface of a lens and which break apart from its attachment upon an impact without damage to the temple, the hinge, the frame, or the surface of the lens. A hinge is also disclosed for connecting a temple having a power source to an eyeglass frame and for providing an electrical connection with the frame only when the temple is opened.

Claims

1. A hinge for connecting a temple having a power source to an eyeglass frame, wherein the hinge is adapted for providing an electrical connection with the frame only when the temple is opened.

2. The hinge of claim 1, wherein the hinge includes an attachment device.

3. The hinge of claim 2, wherein said attachment device includes a snap-on device.

4. The hinge of claim 2, wherein said attachment device includes a magnet.

5. The hinge of claim 1, wherein the temple includes an electronic component.

6. The hinge of claim 5, wherein said electronic component includes a tilt switch.

7. The hinge of claim 5, wherein said electronic component includes a listening device.

8. The hinge of claim 5, wherein said electronic component includes a docking station for an additional electronic component.

9. The hinge of claim 5, wherein said electronic component includes a charging device.

10. The hinge of claim 9, wherein said charging device is adapted for directly coupling to an energy source.

11. The hinge of claim 9, wherein said charging device is adapted for indirectly coupling to an energy source.

12. A hinge for connecting a temple to a surface of a lens, wherein the temple includes a power source, wherein the hinge comprises an electronic component connected to said power source, and wherein the hinge is adapted for providing an electrical connection with the lens only when the temple is opened.

13. The hinge of claim 12, further comprising an attachment device.

14. The hinge of claim 13, wherein said attachment device includes a snap-on device.

15. The hinge of claim 13, wherein said attachment device includes a magnet.

16. The hinge of claim 12, wherein said electronic component includes a tilt switch.

17. The hinge of claim 12, wherein said electronic component includes a listening device.

18. The hinge of claim 12, wherein said electronic component includes a docking station for an additional electronic component.

19. The hinge of claim 12, wherein said electronic component includes a charging device.

20. The hinge of claim 19, wherein said charging device is adapted for directly coupling to an energy source.

21. The hinge of claim 19, wherein said charging device is adapted for indirectly coupling to an energy source.
