Abstract

An integrated antenna and reflector feed is provided which is structured as a waveguide cavity antenna or array having a curved reflector coupled to a sidewall of the waveguide cavity. A radiation source is situated facing the curved reflector and one or more radiating elements are provided on a top surface of the waveguide cavity. Several curved reflector feeds may be used, operating in the same or different frequencies.

Claims

1. An integrated antenna and reflector RF feed, comprising,

a waveguide cavity having a top surface, bottom surface, and sidewall;

at least one radiating element provided on the top surface;

at least one curved reflector coupled to an opening in the sidewall;

at least one radiation source facing the curved reflector.

2. The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 1, further comprising a second curved reflector provided in a second opening in the sidewall, and at least one second radiation source facing the second curved reflector.

3. The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 2, wherein the at least one radiating element comprises a plurality of n×

n radiating elements, n being a natural whole number, and wherein the n×

n radiating elements are arranged symmetrically with respect to the curved reflector and the second curved reflector.

4. The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 3, wherein each of the n×

n elements is symmetrical with respect to two axes residing on the same plane and extending normally to each other from the center of each of the n×

n elements.

5. The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 1, further comprising an extension coupled to an opening in the sidewall, and wherein the curved reflector is provided under the bottom surface and is coupled to the extension.

6. The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 3, further comprising a third and a fourth reflectors and at least one each of a third and a fourth radiating sources facing the third and fourth reflectors, respectively, and further comprising m×

m radiating elements arranged symmetrically with respect to the third and fourth reflectors, wherein m being a natural whole number.

7. The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 2, wherein the at least one radiating element comprises a plurality of n×

m radiating elements, n and m being natural whole numbers, and wherein each of the n×

m radiating elements is a polarizing radiating element.

8. The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 1, wherein the radiation source comprises one of:

metallic pin, metallic pin with counter reflector, a movable radiating pin, multiple radiating pins, waveguide horn opening, microstrip patch, and microstrip array.

The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 1, the at least one radiation source comprises a plurality of radiation sources and wherein the curved reflector reflects the energy received from each of the radiation sources to generate a planar wave propagating inside the waveguide cavity.

The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 9, wherein the plurality of radiation sources are spaced apart from each other at a predetermined distance, such that each planar wave generated from a corresponding radiation source is coupled into the at least one radiating element to generate a beam directed at a predetermined angle with respect to the top surface.

The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 9, wherein the plurality of radiation sources are spaced apart from each other at a predetermined distance, such that radiation from one of the radiation sources generates a beam pointing at boresight, while radiation from each of the other radiation sources is tilted from boresight at a predetermined angle.

12. The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 1, wherein the sidewall is curved.

13. The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 1, wherein the sidewall defines a polygon.

14. The integrated antenna and reflector RF feed of claim 1, wherein the sidewall defines a square.

15. An antenna, comprising:

a rectangular waveguide cavity having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a sidewall, the top surface having a plurality of openings provided thereupon;

a plurality of radiating elements each provided on the top surface about one of the openings;

a curved reflector coupled to an opening in the sidewall;

a radiation source facing the curved reflector.

16. The antenna of claim 15, wherein the waveguide cavity is square and the radiating elements are arranged symmetrically about a diagonal of the square.

17. The antenna of claim 16, further comprising an extension coupled to the opening in the sidewall, and wherein the curved reflector is provided below the bottom surface and is coupled to the extension.

18. The antenna of claim 17, further comprising a counter reflector facing the curved reflector and situated opposite the radiation source.

19. The antenna of claim 16, further comprising a second curved reflector provided in a second opening in the sidewall, and a second radiating source facing the second curved reflector.

20. The antenna of claim 19, further comprising an extension coupled to the opening in the sidewall, and wherein the curved reflector is provided under the bottom surface and is coupled to the extension and further comprising a second extension coupled to the second opening in the sidewall, and wherein the second curved reflector is provided under the bottom surface and is coupled to the second extension.

21. The antenna of claim 19, wherein each of the radiation source and second radiation source comprises a plurality of conductive elements.

22. The antenna of claim 21, wherein each of the plurality of conductive elements is situated so that the curved reflector reflects the energy received from each of the conductive elements to generate a linear wave front at the opening at the side of the waveguide.

24. The antenna of claim 16, wherein each of the radiating elements is a conductive element having a shape that is symmetrical with respect to two axes residing on the same plane and extending normally to each other from the center the element.

25. The antenna of claim 24, wherein the shape of each of the radiating elements is conical.
