Abstract

Pressure measurement system comprising a pressure sensor wire with a pressure sensor to measure pressure inside a patient, and to provide measured pressure data to an external device. The pressure sensor wire is adapted to be connected, at its proximal end, to a transceiver unit that is adapted to wirelessly communicate via a communication signal with a communication unit arranged in connection with an external device, in order to transfer measured pressure data to the external device. The pressure data to be transferred is generated by the transceiver unit and transferred as a data stream. Preferably, the communication signal is a radio frequency signal.

Claims

1. Transceiver unit adapted to be connected to a proximal end of a pressure sensor wire provided, at its distal end, with a pressure sensor to measure pressure inside a patient,

said transceiver unit is adapted to wirelessly communicate by a communication signal with a communication unit, arranged in connection with an external device, in order to transfer measured pressure data to the external device, characterized in that the communication signal, including the measured pressure data, is generated by the transceiver unit and transferred as a data stream.

2. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein said communication signal is a radio frequency signal.

3. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein said data stream is in the form of data packets.

4. Transceiver unit according to claim 2, wherein said wireless radio frequency communication is performed by Bluetooth.

5. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein said unit is provided with means to perform bi-directional communication with said communication unit.

6. Transceiver unit according to claim 2, wherein said radio frequency signal has a frequency of 2.4 GHz.

7. Transceiver unit according to claim 2, wherein said wireless radio frequency communication is performed by a frequency hopping technique.

8. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein said communication signal is an infrared signal.

9. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein said communication signal is an ultrasound signal.

10. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein said communication signal is a light signal.

11. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein the transceiver unit is activated and initiated by an activation means.

12. Transceiver unit according to claim 11, wherein said activation means is an activation button arranged on said unit.

Transceiver unit according to claim 11, wherein said activation means activates and initiates the unit when electrical connections are established between corresponding electrical contact surfaces of female and male connectors of said transceiver unit and the proximal end of the sensor wire, respectively.

14. Transceiver unit according to claim 13, wherein said unit comprises a female connector comprises an insulating hollow housing containing a predetermined number of hollow contact surfaces to make contact with the conductive surfaces of the male connector.

15. Transceiver unit according to claim 13, wherein at the distal end of the female connector, fastening means for securing the male connector in the female connector are provided.

16. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein said unit is provided with guiding means to guide the pressure sensor wire during insertion into a patient.

17. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein said unit comprises energy means to energize the transceiver unit and the circuitry of the connected pressure sensor wire.

18. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein said unit comprises a sensor signal adapting circuitry adapted to filter, process, and format the signal received from the pressure sensor wire.

19. Transceiver unit according to claim 1, wherein said unit is sterilizable.

Communication unit arranged to be connected to an external device, characterized in that said unit is adapted to wirelessly communicate with a transceiver unit according to claim 1, and adapted to be connected to a standard input/output connector of the external device to communicate in accordance with an established standard, or in accordance with relevant parts of an established standard, e.g. BP22 or USB.

21. Communication unit according to claim 20, wherein the unit is adapted to receive pressure sensor values in the form of “

raw”

measured data and to apply said data to a processing and conditioning means in order to process and condition the data to be supplied to the external device according to a prescribed standard format.

22. Pressure measurement system comprising a pressure sensor wire with a pressure sensor to measure pressure inside a patient, and to provide measured pressure data to an external device,

characterized in that pressure measurement system further comprises a transceiver unit according to claim 1, and a communication unit that is adapted to wirelessly communicate with the transceiver unit, the pressure sensor wire is adapted to be connected, at its proximal end, to said transceiver unit that is adapted to wirelessly communicate via a communication signal with said communication unit, arranged in connection with the external device, in order to transfer measured pressure data to the external device.
