1. A cable modem comprising:

  • a cable transceiver, coupled to a cable network, that provides bidirectional broadband access to a wide area network in accordance with a first wired communication protocol;

    a radio frequency (RF) transceiver, that provides bidirectional communication with a wireless telephone over a radio frequency link at a selected carrier frequency;

    a programmable antenna, coupled to the RF transceiver, that is dynamically tuned to the selected carrier frequency to transmit and receive an RF signal over the radio frequency link.a memory module that stores a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) application; and

    a processing module, coupled to the cable transceiver, the RF transceiver and the memory module, that executes the VoIP application to provide VoIP service to the wireless telephone via the cable network.
