Abstract

A method for identifying receipt of a message at a mobile terminal comprising a first body and a second body positionable between open and closed states includes receiving a message via a wireless communication, determining an open state of the mobile terminal, and selectively providing a notification indicating the receiving of the message based upon the open state of the mobile terminal.

Claims

1. A method for identifying receipt of a message at a mobile terminal comprising a first body and a second body positionable between open and closed states, the method comprising:

receiving a message via a wireless communication;

determining an open state of the mobile terminal; and

selectively providing a notification indicating the receiving of the message based upon the open state of the mobile terminal.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the message comprises a messenger request signal.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

executing a messenger mobile information device application (MIDlet) associated with the message responsive to the mobile terminal transitioning from a closed state to an open state.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the first body is slideably or hingedly positionable relative to the second body.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the notification is provided by performing one of brightening a display of the mobile terminal, outputting a reception sound, and displaying a message.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the notification is provided with a display or a sound when the mobile terminal is in a closed state.

7. A mobile terminal comprising a first body and a second body positionable between open and closed states, the mobile terminal comprising:

a communication module for receiving a message;

a sensor for sensing an open state of the mobile terminal; and

a controller for selectively providing a notification indicating the receiving of the message based upon the open state of the mobile terminal.

8. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the message comprises a messenger request signal.

9. The mobile terminal of claim 7, further comprising a program unit for storing a messenger mobile information device application (MIDlet) program for executing a messenger MIDlet upon receiving the message.

10. The mobile terminal of claim 7, further comprising a sound output unit for notifying the receiving of the message by outputting a reception sound.

11. The mobile terminal of claim 7, further comprising a display for notifying the receiving of the message by displaying a message or brightening a display of the mobile terminal.

12. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the controller executes a messenger mobile information device application (MIDlet) associated with the message when the mobile terminal is in an open state.

13. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the controller provides a notification indicating the receiving of the message to a user when the mobile terminal is in a closed state.

14. The mobile terminal of claim 7, further comprising a virtual machine execution unit comprising a plurality of classes including a MIDlet class required for executing a Java virtual machine.

15. The mobile terminal of claim 7, further comprising a storage unit for storing a messenger mobile information device application (MIDlet) received via the communication module.

16. A method for identifying receipt of a message and executing a messenger mobile information device application (MIDlet) at a mobile terminal comprising a first body and a second body positionable between open and closed states, the method comprising:

receiving a message via a wireless communication; and

determining whether the message is equal to a previously received message.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the message comprises a messenger request signal.

18. The method of claim 16, further comprising delaying the messenger MIDlet when the currently received message is equal to the previously received message.

19. The method of claim 16, further comprising executing the messenger MIDlet when the currently received message is not equal to the previously received message and the mobile terminal is in an open state.

20. The method of claim 16, further comprising notifying the receiving of the message to a user when the message is not equal to the previously received message and the mobile terminal is in a closed state.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the notification is provided by performing one of displaying a message, outputting a sound, and brightening a display of the mobile terminal.
