Abstract

A method and system that can be used to automatically calculate and generate performance analysis charts, including a reliability curve is disclosed. The method and system may be used to selectively convert performance records data from a database into graphs and charts reflective of a performance analysis. The invention also provides a tool and method that can be used to predict the effective life or run time of a component, such as a drill bit, based calculated reliabilities for similar components.

Claims

1. A method for selecting a drill bit, comprising:

entering filtering criteria into a filtering criteria worksheet;

filtering bit run records to identify desired drill bit records based on the filtering criteria;

calculating a predicted effective life for the drill bits based on data from the desired records; and

graphically displaying the predicted effective life for the drill bits.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising selecting a drill bit based on the calculated predicted effective life.

3. A method for selecting a drill bit, comprising:

filtering bit run records to identify desired records for drill bits based on filtering criteria;

calculating performance data for the drill bits based on data from the desired records;

graphically displaying the calculated performance data for the drill bits.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising selecting a drill bit based on the calculated performance data for the drill bits.

5. A method for determining when to pull a drill bit, comprising:

filtering bit run records for drill bits based on filtering criteria provided as input;

calculating a predicted effective life for drill bits based on data from the filtered records; and

graphically displaying the calculated effective life for the drill bits.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising determining when to pull a drill bit based on the calculated effective file for the drill bits.
