Abstract

A system and method for viewing models and model variables within a sophisticated modeling environment is disclosed. The system provides varying levels of insight into a modeling infrastructure to help the user understand model and model variable dependencies, usage, distribution, and/or the like. The method includes storing model and model variable data within a relational database system, receiving a request from a user interfacing with the system via a web interface, extracting search criteria and presentation preferences from the request, formulating and executing one or more queries on the database to retrieve the required data, formatting the data in accordance with the request, and retuning the data to the requesting user in the form of a web page.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for providing a model penetration report in a modeling environment, said method including:

reading a request from a client, wherein said request includes a selection parameter and a presentation parameter;

reading model data when said model data corresponds to said selection parameter;

performing an analysis of said model data, wherein said analysis determines model usage statistics;

categorizing said model data according to said analysis to form penetration data; and

, formatting said penetration data according to said presentation parameter.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said selection parameter is at least one of:

developer identifier, business unit, model type, and variable type.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein said formatted penetration data is displayed in at least one of a table, a chart, and a graph.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said request includes at least one of:

display color preferences, model display preferences, navigation preferences, sizing preferences, and zooming preferences.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein said penetration data includes at least one of:

a model identifier, campaign type identifier, and a sum of models associated with said campaign type identifier.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein said penetration data include a link to open a model analysis interface.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said request is received from a remote user.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said presentation parameter is a formatting preference comprising at least one of:

table, graph, and timeframe.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein said penetration data is color-coded according to at least one of:

status, modeler, model owner, business unit, model type, variable type, decommissioning status, decommissioning date, and deployment date.

10. The method of claim 1, further including receiving a request to decommission a model associated with said model data, wherein said request includes at least one of:

decommission date, authorization request, model dependency data, variable dependency data, and model owner identifier.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein said model may be decommissioned only when dependencies are resolved.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein said model data is received from a plurality of modeling environments by at least one of:

batch mode and real-time.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein said penetration data is distributed by at least one of hypertext markup language file, email, facsimile, wireless device, and postal mail.

14. The method of claim 1, further including:

reading dependency data corresponding to said model data for each of said plurality of simulation model;

categorizing dependencies of said plurality of simulation models based upon said dependency data, wherein said dependencies are based upon how a simulation model utilizes other of said plurality of simulation models.

15. The method of claim 1, further including:

retrieving, from said model data, dependency data when said model data includes a variable name; and

,

categorizing a plurality of model names, wherein said model names are arranged according to said dependency data

16. The method of claim 1, further including:

reading variable data corresponding to said model data, wherein said variable data includes usage data for a plurality of variables;

categorizing said plurality of variables according to said usage data to create variable types; and

,

determining usage statistics for each of said variable types.

17. The method of claim 1, further including:

reading performance data corresponding to said model data, wherein said performance data includes model scoring data, model execution data, and dataset generation data for a plurality of simulation models; and

,

determining averages for said performance data based on defined time intervals.

18. The method of claim 1, further including:

retrieving, from said model data, identifiers for a plurality of model developers;

classifying said identifiers according to an allocation type identifier, wherein said categorization includes an allocation of human resources based upon said allocation type identifier.

19. The method of claim 1, further including:

retrieving, from said model data, a last usage date for each of a plurality of simulation models; and

,

categorizing each of said plurality of simulation models according to said last usage date a variable usage type.

20. A machine-readable medium having stored thereon a plurality of instructions for providing insight into system performance in a modeling environment, said plurality of instructions when executed by a processor, cause said processor to perform a method comprising the steps of:

reading a request from a client, wherein said request includes a selection parameter and a presentation parameter;

reading model data when said model data corresponds to said selection parameter;

performing an analysis of said model data, wherein said analysis determines model usage statistics;

categorizing said model data according to said analysis to form penetration data; and

,

formatting said penetration data according to said presentation parameter.
