PERSONAL MULTI-MEDIA PLAYING DEVICE

1. A personal multi-media playing device comprising:
- means for receiving transmitted multi-media files for playing on said playing device; and
means for enabling a user of said multi-media device to provide one response of a plurality of possible user responses to a playing of a selected multi-media piece, said one response being selectively transmitted back to a source of said transmitted multi-media files.

A multi-media playing device is provided which enables personal, user-defined programming by allowing a user to select, store and retrieve media programming according to the user'"'"'s personal preferences. In an exemplary embodiment, an audio playing device enables a user to define, select and refine channels by categories, such as “sports”, “news” and “music”, inter alia. A favorites list or playlist is created by a content server and used to provide a listing for types of audio programs in an order of preference of the user. The audio device enables user personal feedback on actual audio program presentations and the feedback is, in turn, selectively used to automatically update the user'"'"'s favorites listing of audio information programming preferences. The user is enabled to input commands to the multi-media playing device, both manually or verbally, to change audio or video presentations in an order of user priority as presented on the automatically updated favorites listing.
