Abstract

A system, method and apparatus for real time measurement and monitoring of various personal health parameters including controlled delivery of drugs/medications by intelligent pump appliances, intelligent inhalation appliances and intelligent skin patch appliances used in a standalone manner or in a wired or wireless networked configuration, in conjunction with various peripheral devices, other intelligent appliances, servers, RF ID Tags and stationary/mobile devices. The intelligent appliances relate to the measurement, monitoring and delivery of insulin/other drugs for the treatment of diabetes and other diseases. The method also additionally includes the application of intelligent appliances for pain management including visualization of organs and body locations exhibiting pain.

20. A mobile device comprising:

an input/output (I/O) device coupled to a processor;

a communication system coupled to the processor; and

a medical system coupled to the processor, the medical system configured to process medical data of a user and generate processed medical information, wherein the medical data includes one or more of anatomical data, pain data, specimen data, biological parameters, health information of the user, wherein the processor is configured to dynamically control operations between the communication system and the medical system.

21. The device of claim 20, wherein the operations of the communication system include one or more of a mobile device, wireless communication device, cellular telephone, Internet Protocol (IP) telephone, WiFi telephone, server, personal digital assistant (PDA), and portable computer (PC).

22. The device of claim 20, wherein the biological parameters include one or more of current and historical biological information of the user comprising one or more of weight, height, age, temperature, body mass index, medical analyses results, body fluid analyses, blood analyses results, electrical activity of a body of the user, heart activity, heart rate, and blood pressure.

23. The device of claim 20, wherein the health information includes one or more of current and historical health information of the user, wherein the health information includes one or more of dietary data, types of food consumed, amounts of food consumed, medications consumed, times of food consumption, physical activity exercise regimen, work schedule, activity schedule, and sleep schedule.

24. The device of claim 20, wherein the communication system is configured to communicate one or more of the medical data and the processed medical information to a remote device located one or more of on the user, in a home, in an office, and at a medical treatment facility, the remote device including one or more of a processor-based device, mobile device, wireless device, server, personal digital assistant (PDA), cellular telephone, wearable device, and portable computer (PC).

25. The device of claim 20, wherein the processed medical information is used for one or more of observation, research study, real time monitoring, periodic monitoring, correlation, diagnosis, treatment, database archival, communication, command, and control.

26. The device of claim 20, wherein the communication system is configured to communicate alert information in response to the processed medical information, wherein the alert information includes one or more of a message, a visual alert, an audible alert, and a vibratory alert communicated to the user, wherein the alert information includes one or more of voice data, text, graphics data, and multimedia information.

27. The device of claim 20, wherein configured to process medical data comprises correlating one or more of the medical data and processed medical information with categorical data of the user, wherein the categorical data includes one or more of data of an age category of the user, data of a body type of the user, and parametric data of the user.

28. The device of claim 20, wherein the processor is configured to convert one or more of the medical data and the processed medical information from a first form to a second form.

29. The device of claim 20, comprising a memory device coupled to the processor, wherein the memory device is configured for storing one or more of the medical data and the processed medical information.

30. The device of claim 20, comprising a positioning device coupled to the processor, the positioning device automatically determining a location of the user and outputting information of the location, wherein the positioning device is a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, wherein the location includes one or more of a latitude, a longitude, an altitude, a geographical position relative to a land-based reference.

31. The device of claim 20, wherein the r/o device is configured to provide communication via a network comprising a wired network and a wireless network.

32. The device of claim 20, comprising a port configured to receive one or more of a specimen from a body of the user and a substrate including the specimen.

33. The device of claim 32, comprising an analyzer coupled to the port, the analyzer including a sensor coupled to a processor configured to analyze the specimen and generate the processed medical information, wherein analysis of the specimen includes correlating parameters of the specimen with the medical data.

34. The device of claim 32, wherein the specimen comprises a blood sample, wherein the processed medical information includes one or more of a chemical analysis of the blood sample.

35. The device of claim 20, comprising at least one auxiliary port for coupling to at least one other device.

36. The device of claim 20, comprising a delivery system coupled to the processor, the delivery system including at least one reservoir that contains at least one composition, the delivery system configured to administer at least one composition for use in treating the user, wherein the composition is administered under control of the processor and the processed medical information.

37. The device of claim 36, wherein the delivery system is configured to automatically administer the composition.

38. The device of claim 36, wherein the delivery system is configured to administer the composition under manual control of the user.

39. The device of claim 36, wherein the processed medical information includes a plurality of dosages, wherein the composition is administered under at least one of the plurality of dosages.

40. The device of claim 36, wherein the processed medical information includes information of the at least one composition, wherein the information of the at least one composition includes one or more of composition identification information, an amount released, and a time of release.

41. The device of claim 36, wherein the processor is configured to one or more of generate and receive control signals.

42. The device of claim 41, wherein the processor generates the control signals one or more of automatically and in response to an input from the user.

43. The device of claim 41, wherein the control signals are configured to control one or more of devices coupled to the user, devices implanted in the user and devices coupled to the processor.

44. The device of claim 41, wherein the control signals control administration of the at least one composition.

45. The device of claim. 36, wherein the reservoir includes a pump.

46. The device of claim 36, comprising one or more of a plunger coupled to the reservoir and a delivery mechanism coupled to the reservoir wherein said delivery mechanism controls delivery of the composition to the body.

47. The device of claim 46, wherein the user manually controls movement of one or more of the plunger and the delivery mechanism.

48. The device of claim 46, wherein the processor automatically controls one or more of the plunger and the delivery mechanism to administer the composition under the processed medical information.

49. The device of claim 46, wherein the processor automatically controls the plunger to administer the composition according to an input received from the user at the processor.

50. The device of claim 36, comprising a catheter coupled to the reservoir and the user, the catheter configured to deliver the composition to the user.

51. The device of claim 36, wherein the processed medical information includes one or more administration parameters of the administered composition, the administration parameters including composition, quantity, volume, pressure, rate flow, temperature, and duration of administration.

52. The device of claim 36, wherein the at least one reservoir comprises a first reservoir including a first composition.

53. The device of claim 52, comprising a second reservoir including a second composition.

54. The device of claim 36, wherein the reservoir is configured to include a first composition and a second composition.

55. The device of claim 54, wherein the delivery system is configured to deliver the first composition and the second composition one or more of simultaneously and sequentially.

56. The device of claim 36, wherein the reservoir is configured to be one or more of refillable and replaceable.

57. The device of claim 36, comprising a substrate coupled to the delivery system and configured for attaching to the user, wherein the substrate is coupled to the delivery system.

58. The device of claim 57, wherein the substrate is a patch configured to deliver the composition to the body.

59. The device of claim 58, wherein the delivery system is configured to distribute the composition over a surface of the patch.

60. The device of claim 57, wherein the substrate includes one or more of an adhesive for attaching to the body and a strap for attaching to the body.

61. The device of claim 57, wherein an amount of the composition to be administered is automatically determined by the processor using the processed medical information.

62. The device of claim 61, wherein the processor is configured to measure a concentration level of the composition at the substrate.

63. The device of claim 62, wherein the processor is configured to maintain a selected concentration level of the composition at the substrate.

64. The device of claim 62, wherein the processor is configured to control a rate of the release of the composition according to the selected concentration level.

65. The device of claim 57, wherein an amount of the composition to be administered is determined by the processor in response to one or more of an input from a user and automatically in response to one or more of processed information and programmed settings.

66. The device of claim 57, wherein an amount of the composition to be administered is automatically determined by a remote device using the processed medical information, wherein the remote device is remote to the delivery system.

67. The device of claim 57, wherein an amount of the composition to be administered is communicated from a remote device in response to an input from a user, wherein the remote device is remote to the delivery system.

68. The device of claim 57, wherein the composition is administered as one or more of a liquid, an atomized liquid, and a vapor.

69. The device of claim 57, comprising a sensor coupled to the processor, the sensor configured to measure an environmental parameter including one or more of pressure, temperature and humidity of a local environment including the user, the processor configured to adjust the administration of the composition using the environmental parameter.

70. The device of claim 57, comprising a sensor coupled to the processor, the sensor configured to measure a skin parameter including one or more of pressure, temperature and humidity of a portion of skin of the user, the processor configured to adjust the administration of the composition using the skin parameter.

71. The device of claim 57, wherein the substrate is configured to be replaceable.

72. The device of claim 57, wherein the substrate is configured to include a first composition and a second composition.

73. The device of claim 72, wherein the delivery system is configured to deliver the first composition and the second composition one or more of simultaneously and sequentially.

74. The device of claim 57, comprising a second substrate coupled to the reservoir, wherein the second substrate is configured to receive a second composition.

75. The device of claim 57, comprising a second reservoir coupled to the delivery system and a second substrate coupled to the second reservoir, wherein the second reservoir is configured to contain a second composition.

76. The device of claim 57, comprising a second reservoir coupled to the substrate, wherein the second reservoir is configured to contain a second composition.

77. The device of claim 36, comprising a skin activator coupled to the processor, wherein the skin activator is configured to activate skin of the user to receive the composition, wherein the processor is configured to automatically control one or more of release of an amount of the composition and skin activation in response to one or more of the medical data and the processed medical information.

78. The device of claim 77, wherein configured to activate the skin includes configured to modulate at least one skin characteristic of a portion of the skin, wherein the modulating provides controlled absorption.

79. The device of claim 77, wherein configured to activate the skin includes configured to one or more of control temperature of the skin, beat the skin and cool the skin.

80. The device of claim 77, wherein configured to activate the skin includes configured to stimulate the skin.

81. The device of claim 77, wherein configured to activate the skin includes configured to apply one or more of mechanical, electrical, light, thermal, acoustic, and ultrasonic activation to the skin.

82. The device of claim 36, wherein the delivery system comprises an inhalation appliance including a valve mechanism coupled to the reservoir and a catheter, wherein the valve mechanism includes a check valve.

83. The device of claim 82, wherein the reservoir includes a metered release mechanism coupled to the valve mechanism.

84. The device of claim 82, comprising one or more of a plunger and delivery mechanism coupled to the processor and the reservoir, wherein one or more of the plunger and the delivery mechanism is controlled by one or more of the processor and a manual input of the user.

85. The device of claim 82, comprising a cannula coupled to the catheter, the cannula configured for attaching to the user to deliver the composition to one or more of a mouth and nose region of the user.

86. The device of claim 82, comprising a facial mask coupled to the catheter, the facial mask configured for attaching to the user to deliver the composition to one or more of a mouth and nose region of the user.

87. The device of claim 82, wherein the processed medical information includes one or more of a delivery rate of the composition and a delivery schedule of the composition.

88. The device of claim 82, wherein the processed medical information includes one or more of dosage, quantity, volume, pressure, and temperature of the composition.

89. The device of claim 20, wherein the processor is configured to dynamically configure the I/O device as a pain mapping device configured to receive the pain data, wherein the pain data is representative of pain, wherein the medical system is configured to record and present the pain data associated with the anatomical data.

90. The device of claim 20, wherein the pain data includes one or more of an anatomical location of the pain, an intensity of the pain, a duration of the pain, and a pattern of the pain.

91. The device of claim 20, wherein the anatomical data includes one or more of body location data, body part data, organ data, and a model of anatomy.

92. The device of claim 91, wherein the anatomical data includes actual images of anatomy of the user, wherein the actual images are generated by medical imagery equipment.

93. The device of claim 92, wherein the processor is configured to retrieve the actual images from a remote device using the I/O device.

94. The device of claim 92, comprising a memory device coupled to the processor, the memory device including the actual images.

95. The device of claim 91, wherein the anatomical data includes one or more of one-dimensional images, two-dimensional images, three-dimensional images, and cross-sectional views of anatomy presented on the I/O device.

96. The device of claim 95, wherein the I/O device is configured to receive the pain data via contact with the I/O device in an area of the views of the anatomy corresponding to a location of the pain.

97. The device of claim 95, wherein the I/O device is configured to receive user inputs to manipulate an image of the anatomical data, the manipulating including one or more of selecting a portion of the image, generating a cross-sectional view at an area of the image, and rotating the image.

98. The device of claim 91, wherein the anatomical data includes descriptions of anatomy in one or more of tabular format and database format presented on the I/O device.

99. The device of claim 98, wherein the I/O device is configured to receive the pain data via one or more of an entry by the user and a selection made by the user.

100. The device of claim 20, wherein the I/O device is configured to control display of one or more of a raw version and a processed version of one or more of the medical data and the processed medical information.

101. The device of claim 20, wherein the I/O device includes one or more of a keyboard, a touch screen, a card reader, a microphone, a receiver, an input configured to receive the medical data, and a display.

102. The device of claim 20, wherein the communication system is configured to communicate with a plurality of health management devices.

The device of claim 20, wherein the communication system includes a transmitter and a receiver, wherein the transmitter includes one or more of a wired and a wireless transmitter, wherein the receiver includes one or more of a wired and a wireless receiver, wherein the communication system communicates using at least one channel, wherein the communication system is configured to transfer one or more of the medical data and the processed medical information between a remote device.

104. The device of claim 103, wherein the remote device includes one or more of a processor-based device, mobile device, wireless communication device, cellular telephone, Internet Protocol (IP) telephone, WiFi telephone, server, personal digital assistant (PDA), and portable computer (PC).

105. The device of claim 103, wherein the processor and the remote device are configured to distribute the analyzing of one or more of the medical data and the processed medical information.

The device of claim 103, wherein the communication system is configured to receive biometric identification information of the user from the remote device, the biometric identification information including one or more of voice signals, photographic data, handwriting data, finger print data, and retinal data.

107. The device of claim 103, wherein the communication system is configured to receive control data from the remote device.

108. The device of claim 20, wherein the communication system is configured to receive identification information of the user from an identification device, wherein the identification device couples to the communication system via one or more of a wireless and a wired coupling.

109. The device of claim 101, wherein the communication system is configured to receive from the identification device one or more of the medical data and the processed medical information.

110. The device of claim 108, wherein the communication system is configured to transmit to the identification device one or more of the medical data and the processed medical information.

The device of claim 108, wherein the identification device includes one or more of an optically readable tag, a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, an identification number, a wrist band, a necklace, a badge, a smart card, a wearable device, and a device implanted in a body of the user.

112. The device of claim 20, wherein the I/O device comprises an audio receiver for receiving audio data, wherein the audio data received includes one or more of the medical data and the processed medical information.

113. The device of claim 20, wherein the processor being configured to dynamically control operations comprises the processor dynamically configuring operations from a first configuration to a second configuration.

114. The device of claim 113, wherein the dynamically configuring includes one or more of automatic configuring in response to a trigger condition and configuring in response to a user input.

115. The device of claim 113, wherein the first configuration Supports operation as one or more of a mobile device, wireless communication device, cellular telephone. Internet Protocol (TP) telephone, WiFi telephone, server, personal digital assistant (PDA), and portable computer (PC).

116. The device of claim 113, wherein the second configuration supports operation as the medical system.

117. The device of claim 113, wherein the processor is configured to reconfigure the operations from the second configuration to the first configuration.

118. The device of claim 117, wherein the reconfiguring includes one or more of automatic reconfiguring in response to a trigger condition and reconfiguring in response to a user input.

119. The device of claim 20, wherein the medical system is configured to generate output signals in response to the medical data and the processed medical information, wherein the output signals include signals for use in controlling health appliances.

120. The device of claim 119, wherein the output signals control release of at least one composition for treatment of the user.

The device of claim 20, comprising a positioning device coupled to the processor and configured to determine a location of the user, wherein the processed medical information includes the location information to one or more of adjust administration of at least one composition delivered to the user and generate recommended actions for controlling health of the user, wherein the recommended actions include one or more of actions of food ingestion, medication ingestion, and physical activity.
