METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DELIVERING PERCEPTA
First Claim
1. A method for sideloading percepta soft assets onto a communications device, wherein the percepta soft assets include an ipselecta subset that is available and ready-to-use, the method comprising:
- obtaining a first master panoplex, wherein the first master panoplex includes an installed superset of percepta soft assets and also includes directory information of the superset of percepta soft assets;
separating data of the first master panoplex into a first portion and a second portion, wherein the first portion includes at least a subset of the directory information, and wherein the second portion lacks at least a subset of the directory information;
storing the second portion of the first master panoplex in a master storage medium that is configured to store a plurality of second portions of panoplexes, including the second portion of the first master panoplex;
storing the first portion of the first master panoplex separate from the second portion of the first master panoplex;
copying the second portion of the first master panoplex onto an end-user storage medium of the communications device, without copying the separated first portion of the first master panoplex, in a form that obscures and prevents access to the superset of the first master panoplex on the end-user storage medium unless or until a gryphing operation is performed on the end-user storage medium;
after the copying, operatively connecting the end-user storage medium to the communications device;
receiving ipselecta-relicta selection data that distinguishes an ipselecta subset of the superset of percepta soft assets from a relicta subset of the superset of percepta soft assets, wherein the ipselecta subset includes a selected set of the percepta soft-assets and the relicta subset includes a non-selected set of the percepta soft-assets;
gryphing the panoplex by retrieving the first portion of the first master panoplex, processing the retrieved first portion of the first master panoplex on a basis of the received ipselecta-relicta selection data and culling the relicta subset, wherein as a result of the gryphing the relicta subset are unavailable for use and residual indicia of the relicta subset remain on the storage medium; and
storing the processed first portion of the first master panoplex to the end-user storage medium of the communications device.

Abstract
An apparatus and method for obtaining a storage medium with a deeply customizable set of installed content. Soft assets (e.g., programs, songs, videos, etc.) that form the content are selected from among a much larger set of preinstalled soft assets previously stored on storage media, such as disk drives. In some embodiments, based on a user'"'"'s selections, the non-selected assets are permanently erased from a storage medium, while the remaining assets are available as installed (wherein substantially no further processing is required to install them). In some embodiments, a new device uses the storage medium to provide its user with a fully functional device without the need to separately install the soft assets from a plurality of sources (e.g., from program-distribution CDROMS and the like). Some embodiments include the storage medium having the soft assets installed, and including a program that elicits selections from a user and erases non-selected assets.

10. A method for sideloading audio files onto a communications device so that an ipselecta subset becomes available and ready to use, the method comprising:
-
providing a solid-state device that comprises at least one memory chip and a system interface capable of sending data to and receiving a digitized audio file from an external communications device; storing a panoplex in the at least one memory chip, wherein the panoplex includes a plurality of obscured audio files; receiving ipselecta-relicta selection data which distinguishes an ipselecta subset of the plurality of obscured audio files stored in the at least one memory chip from a relicta subset of the plurality of obscured audio files, wherein the relicta subset is not to be purchased by the end-user; charging a monetary amount to the end-user corresponding to the ipselecta subset; culling the relicta subset of obscured audio files from the at least one memory chip, the relicta subset of the plurality of obscured audio files being unavailable to the end-user; and performing an operation in conjunction with the culling to change the ipselecta subset of the plurality of obscured audio files. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14)
