1. A roadway system for energy generation and distribution, comprising:
- a plurality of ground-based hybrid-solar-wind energy generating devices;
one or more roads; and
a roadway system electricity grid;
wherein each of substantially all of the ground-based hybrid-solar-wind energy generating devices is electrically connected to the roadway system electricity grid and positioned on part of one of the roads or near to one or more of the roads to thereby allow energy generation from wind created from passing vehicles in addition to energy generation from atmospheric wind.

Abstract
A roadway system for energy generation and distribution is presented. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the roadway system comprises a plurality of ground-based hybrid solar-wind energy generating devices, one or more roads, and a roadway system electricity grid. The energy generating devices are connected to the roadway system electricity grid and substantially all of the ground-based hybrid solar-wind energy generating devices are positioned on part of one of the roads or near to one or more of the roads to thereby allow energy generation from wind created from passing vehicles in addition to energy generation from atmospheric wind.

wherein the one or more vanes are affixed to the shaft, the shaft is rotatably coupled to the generator thereby coupling the turbine with the generator, the generator, turbine, or turbine and generator are affixed to the support structure, and the one or more solar wind energy generating devices are affixed to, built into, or form part of an outer surface of the one or more vanes of the turbine, shaft, generator or support structure.

4. The roadway system of claim 3, wherein each of the ground-based wind energy generating devices comprise turbines containing between about one to about 10 vanes.

5. The roadway system of claim 3, wherein each of the ground-based wind energy generating devices comprise turbines containing a helically shaped vane.

The roadway system of claim 3, further comprising one or more energy storage systems, wherein for a given hybrid-solar-wind energy generating device the wind energy generating device and the one or more solar energy generating device are, independently, electrically connected to at least one of the one or more energy storage systems.

The roadway system of claim 3, wherein each of the hybrid-solar-wind energy generating devices further comprise a motor, the motor being electrically connected to the one or more solar energy generating devices and being adapted to convert energy generated by the one or more solar energy generating devices into rotational energy of the shaft.

8. The roadway system of claim 3, wherein each of the solar wind energy generating devices is affixed to, built into, or form part of the outer surface of one or a combination of the one or more vanes, shaft, generator or support structure.

The roadway system of claim 8, wherein each of the solar wind energy generating devices comprises one or more, or a combination of silicon wafer solar cells, thin-film solar cells, photoelectrochemical cells, nanocrystal solar cells, polymer solar cells, optionally, combined with solar concentrators, trough systems, or solar/engine dish systems.

10. The roadway system of claim 3, wherein one or more thin-film or polymer solar cells are affixed to, built into, or form part of the outer surface of one or a combination of the one or more vanes, shaft, generator or support structure.

11. The roadway system of claim 1, wherein at least about 90% of the ground-based hybrid-solar-wind energy generating devices are equal to or less than about 10 feet in height.

12. The roadway system of claim 1, wherein at least about 90% of the ground-based hybrid-solar-wind energy generating devices are equal to or less than about 1 inch in any direction.

13. The roadway system of claim 12, wherein each of the at least about 90% of the ground-based hybrid-solar-wind energy generating devices that are equal to or less than about 1 long in any direction are part of one or more ground-based hybrid-solar-wind energy generating sheets.

14. The roadway system of claim 13, wherein the ground-based hybrid-solar-wind energy generating sheets comprise between about 100 and about 1 million ground-based hybrid-solar-wind energy generating devices per square meter of sheet area.

generating energy from wind created from passing vehicles using a plurality of ground-based hybrid-solar-wind energy generation devices, wherein each of substantially all of the ground-based hybrid-solar-wind energy generating devices is electrically connected to a roadway system electricity grid and positioned on part of a road or near to one or more roads. - View Dependent Claims (33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41)
storing the hydrogen; releasing energy from stored hydrogen; and distributing the released energy to any or a combination of one or more utility grids, one or more vehicle-based energy storage systems, one or more ground-based energy storage systems, one or more direct power loads, or a hydrogen facility.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein the released energy is distributed to one or more utility grids at peak electricity demand times.
