1. An apparatus to verify that a first participant in a proprietary environment is the owner of a proprietary world identity, comprising;
- a data storage medium including a set of instructions;
a processing element configured to execute the set of instructions, which when executed cause the processing element to implement processes that includeenabling selection of the proprietary world identity by the first participant in the proprietary environment;
generating first identity verification data;
storing the first identity verification data;
providing the first identity verification data to a second participant in the proprietary environment;
receiving second identity verification data from the first participant in the proprietary environment;
comparing the first identity verification data to the second identity verification data; and
verifying ownership of the proprietary world identity selected by the first participant if the first identity verification data and the second identity verification data are substantially equivalent.

Abstract
A system, apparatus, and method for enabling communications, commerce transactions, and other forms of interaction between participants in a gaming or other form of virtual environment and the real world, or between a participant in one virtual environment and a participant in a second virtual environment. These and other types of interactions are enabled with a sufficient degree of trust between the participants to encourage such interactions, while at the same time not compromising certain desired characteristics of the gaming or other experience, such as immersion in the experience and the ability to maintain a high degree of anonymity.
