Abstract

An image is saved to a contact record or set as a home screen directly from a camera application of a portable electronic device. The method includes: capturing an image using a camera that is integrated into the portable electronic device, selecting at least a portion of the image, selecting a contact record from an address book application or selecting a set as home screen option.

Claims

1. A method for saving an image in an address book application of a portable electronic device, said method comprising:

capturing an image using a camera, said camera being integrated into said portable electronic device;

selecting at least a portion of said image;

selecting a contact name to be associated with said image from a list of contact names, each of said contact names corresponding to a contact record that is stored in said address book application; and

saving said image in said contact record of said address book application.

2. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein selection of at least a portion of said image includes cropping said image.

3. A method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising zooming said image prior to selecting at least a portion of said image.

4. A method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising rotating said image prior to selecting at least a portion of said image.

5. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said at least a portion of said image is stored temporarily on said portable electronic device following selection of said at least a portion of said image.

6. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein a previously stored image that is saved in said contact record is selectively overwritten by said image.

7. A portable electronic device for saving an image in an address book application of said portable electronic device, said portable electronic device comprising:

a camera for capturing an image, said camera being integrated into said portable electronic device;

a camera application executable by a processor;

a selection device for selecting at least a portion of said image and subsequently selecting a contact name to be associated with said image from a list of contact names, each of said contact names corresponding to a contact record that is stored in said address book application;

wherein selection of said contact name associated with said image saves said image in said contact record.

8. A portable electronic device as claimed in claim 7, wherein said camera application includes software for altering an appearance of said image.

9. A portable electronic device as claimed in claim 8, wherein said appearance of said image is altered by zooming said image.

10. A portable electronic device as claimed in claim 8, wherein said appearance of said image is altered by cropping said image.

11. A portable electronic device as claimed in claim 8, wherein said appearance of said image is altered by rotating said image.

12. A portable electronic device as claimed in claim 7, wherein said selection device is a trackball.

13. A method for storing an image on a portable electronic device, said method comprising:

capturing an image using a camera, said camera being integrated into said portable electronic device;

selecting at least a portion of said image;

saving said at least a portion of said image on said portable electronic device;

identifying said at least a portion of said image as a new home screen image, said new home screen image replacing an existing home screen image; and

displaying said new home screen image on said home screen of said portable electronic device.

14. A method as claimed in claim 13, wherein selection of at least a portion of said image includes cropping said image.

15. A method as claimed in claim 13, further comprising zooming said image prior to selecting at least a portion of said image.

16. A method as claimed in claim 13, further comprising rotating said image prior to selecting at least a portion of said image.

17. A portable electronic device comprising:

a camera for capturing an image, said camera being integrated into said portable electronic device;

a camera application executable by a processor;

a selection device for selecting at least a portion of said image;

a processor for storing said at least a portion of said image on said portable electronic device, said at least a portion of said image being identified as a new home screen image and overwriting a previous home screen image; and

a display for displaying said new home screen image.

18. A portable electronic device as claimed in claim 17, wherein said camera application includes software for altering an appearance of said image.

19. A portable electronic device as claimed in claim 18, wherein said appearance of said image is altered by zooming said image.

20. A portable electronic device as claimed in claim 18, wherein said appearance of said image is altered by rotating said image.

21. A portable electronic device as claimed in claim 17, wherein said selection device is a trackball.
