System, apparatus, and method for establishing circuit-switched communicaitons via packet-switched network signaling
First Claim
1. A method comprising:
- establishing, via a first terminal, a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) session with a second terminal via an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) of a packet-switched (PS) network;
determining that a circuit switched (CS) bearer is required for a media component of the SIP session;
obtaining one or more CS routing numbers used for establishing a CS communication flow with the second terminal via the CS bearer;
communicating the CS routing number via the SIP session by way of a Session Description Protocol (SDP) extension, wherein the SDP extension further includes an indication that the CS communication flow is requested via the CS bearer; and
effecting the CS communication flow with the second terminal via the CS bearer as directed by SDP extension, wherein the CS communication flow is bound together with the SIP session of the first and second terminals.

Abstract
A system, apparatus and method for establishing circuit-switched (CS) communications in packet-switched (PS) multimedia networks such as IMS, and providing services via the PS networks to CS domain users. A dialog is established between terminals through the PS multimedia network. A service is provided to at least one of the terminals by way of the dialog. CS bearer information, including an indication that a communication flow is requested via a CS network, is communicated between the terminals by way of the dialog. A communication flow via the CS network is effected between the terminals as directed by the CS bearer information. IMS or other PS multimedia network services can thus be provided to users otherwise communicating via the CS-domain.

10. A terminal comprising:
-
a processing system; a first user agent operable via the processing system and configured to; establish a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) session with a target terminal via an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) of a packet-switched (PS) network; obtain one or more CS routing numbers used for establishing a CS communication flow with the target terminal via the CS bearer; communicate the CS routing number between the terminals via the SIP session by way of a Session Description Protocol (SDP) extension, wherein the SDP extension further includes an indication that the CS communication flow is requested via the CS bearer; and a second user agent operable via the processing system and configured to effect the CS communication flow with the target terminal via the CS bearer as directed by SDP extension, wherein the CS communication flow is bound together with the SIP session of the terminal and the target terminal. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 18)

19. A computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon which are executable by a first terminal by performing steps comprising:
-
establishing a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) session with a second terminal via an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) of a packet-switched (PS) network; determining that a circuit switched (CS) bearer is required for a media component of the SIP session; obtaining one or more CS routing numbers used for establishing a CS communication flow with the second terminal via the CS bearer; communicating the CS routing number via the SIP session by way of a Session Description Protocol (SDP) extension, wherein the SDP extension further includes an indication that the CS communication flow is requested via the CS bearer; and effecting the CS communication flow with the second terminals via the CS bearer as directed by SDP extension, wherein the CS communication flow is bound together with the SIP session of the first and second terminals.
