Abstract

A battery powered device is composed of a plurality of circuit components, including a battery. The perimeter of the battery is enclosed by a protective frame. Alternatively, a protective member is positioned inside the battery. The protective frame/member makes the battery resistant to being severely damaged by tearing or cutting forces commonly used in the destruction and disposal of battery powered devices.

Claims

1. A battery powered device, comprising:

a battery; and

a protective frame enclosing the perimeter of the battery.

2. The battery powered device of claim 1, wherein the protective frame encloses the top surface of the battery.

3. The battery powered device of claim 1, wherein the protective frame is composed of a metal alloy.

4. The battery powered device of claim 3, wherein the metal alloy is stainless steel.

5. The battery powered device of claim 1, wherein the protective frame is composed of cut-resistant fibers.

6. The battery powered device of claim 5, wherein the cut-resistant fibers are para-aramid fibers.

7. The battery powered device of claim 1, wherein the protective frame has a thickness that is equal to or greater than a thickness of the battery.

8. The battery powered device of claim 1, wherein the protective frame has a thickness that is less than a thickness of the battery.

9. The battery powered device of claim 1, wherein the protective frame has a thickness in the range of 0.002-0.045 inches.

10. The battery powered device of claim 1, wherein the protective frame encloses the battery such that sides of the battery are enclosed by the protective frame and a top and bottom portion of the battery are not enclosed by the protective frame.

11. The battery powered device of claim 1, wherein the protective frame encloses the battery such that sides of the battery and a top portion of the battery are enclosed by the protective frame and a bottom portion of the battery is not enclosed by the protective frame.

12. A battery powered device, comprising:

a plurality of circuit components including a battery; and

a protective frame enclosing one or more of the plurality of circuit components.

13. The battery powered device of claim 12, wherein the protective frame is positioned along the periphery of the battery powered device.

14. The battery powered device of claim 12, wherein the protective frame only encloses the perimeter of the battery.

15. The battery powered device of claim 12, wherein the protective frame is composed of a metal alloy.

16. The battery powered device of claim 15, wherein the metal alloy is stainless steel.

17. The battery powered device of claim 12, wherein the protective frame is composed of cut-resistant fibers.

18. The battery powered device of claim 17, wherein the cut-resistant fibers are para-aramid fibers.

19. The battery powered device of claim 12, wherein the protective frame has a thickness that is equal to or greater than a thickness of the plurality of circuit components.

20. The battery powered device of claim 12, wherein the protective frame has a thickness that is less than a thickness of the plurality of circuit components.

21. The battery powered device of claim 12, wherein the protective frame has a thickness in the range of 0.010-0.022 inches.

22. A battery powered device, comprising:

a battery; and

a protective member positioned inside the battery.

23. The battery powered device of claim 22, wherein the protective member can be a singular band positioned along the length or width of the battery.

24. The battery powered device of claim 22, wherein the protective member is composed of a rigid material resistant to tearing, shearing, and cutting forces.

25. The battery powered device of claim 22, wherein the protective member is composed of a metal alloy.

26. The battery powered device of claim 25, wherein the metal alloy is stainless steel.

27. The battery powered device of claim 22, wherein the protective member is composed of cut-resistant fibers.

28. The battery powered device of claim 27, wherein the cut-resistant fibers are para-aramid fibers.

29. The battery powered device of claim 22, wherein the protective member has a thickness that is equal to or greater than a thickness of the battery.

30. The battery powered device of claim 22, wherein the protective member has a thickness that is less than a thickness of the battery.

31. The battery powered device of claim 22, wherein the protective member has a thickness in the range of 0.002-0.045 inches.

32. A battery powered device, comprising:

a bottom overlay;

a battery, positioned on top of the bottom overlay;

a top overlay, positioned above the battery; and

a protective frame, positioned between the top and bottom overlay, enclosing the perimeter of the battery.

33. The battery powered device of claim 32, further comprising a core layer configured to encapsulate the protective frame and battery, positioned between the top overlay and bottom overlay.

34. The battery powered device of claim 32, wherein the protective frame encloses the top surface of the battery.

35. The battery powered device of claim 32, wherein the protective frame is composed of a metal alloy.

36. A battery powered device, comprising:

a bottom overlay;

a plurality of circuit components including a battery, positioned on top of the bottom overlay;

a top overlay, positioned above the plurality of circuit components including the battery; and

a protective frame, positioned between the top and bottom overlay, enclosing one or more of the plurality of circuit components.

37. The battery powered device of claim 36, further comprising a core layer configured to encapsulate the protective frame and battery, positioned between the top overlay and bottom overlay.

38. The battery powered device of claim 36, wherein the protective frame encloses the top surface of the battery.

39. The battery powered device of claim 36, wherein the protective frame is composed of a metal alloy.

40. A battery powered device, comprising:

a bottom overlay;

a battery, positioned on top of the bottom overlay;

a top overlay, positioned above the battery; and

a protective member positioned inside the battery.

41. The battery powered device of claim 40, further comprising a core layer configured to encapsulate the battery, positioned between the top overlay and bottom overlay.

42. The battery powered device of claim 40, wherein the protective member can be a singular band positioned along the length or width of the battery.

43. The battery powered device of claim 40, wherein the protective member is composed of a rigid material resistant to tearing, shearing, and cutting forces.

44. The battery powered device of claim 40, wherein the protective member is composed of a metal alloy.

45. The battery powered device of claim 40, wherein the protective member is composed of cut-resistant fibers.
