Abstract

A mobile communication device is adapted to identify a task for postponed transfer to a computing device over a local communication link. A similar transfer task function is established on the computing device for receiving the identified task and any required related data. The user is provided with the ability to initiate a task on the mobile communication device and continue or complete the task on a computer.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

initiating a task on a mobile communication device;

identifying the task as a task to be continued on a computer device;

compiling related documents, data, and information relating to the task into a task file associated with the identified task;

establishing a communication connection between the computer device and the mobile communication device; and

transferring the identified task and task file from the mobile communication device to the computer device for continuing performance of the task.

2. The method according to claim 1 further comprising:

analyzing the task;

entering notes related to the completion of the task;

associating the notes with the identified task file.

3. The method according to claim 1 wherein the connection is established using a wireless communication channel.

4. The method according to claim 1 further comprising:

enabling the transfer of data identified in a web browser on the computer device to a web browser on the mobile communication device and visa versa to synchronize the respective internet browsers.

The method according to claim 4 wherein the data transferred comprises both active and passive data relating to browser settings and preferences to establish a seamless similarity of browsing experience between the mobile communication device browsing services and computer device browsing services.

6. The method according to claim 1 wherein the communication connection is a two way communication adapted to allow tasks initiated on the computer device to be identified and transferred to the mobile communication device.

7. The method according to claim 1 wherein the data in the identified task file includes related formats and protocols.

8. The method according to claim 1 wherein when a task is identified for transfer a notice of the identification is displayed on a user interface of the computer device to which the task is transferred.

9. The method according to claim 8 wherein the notice is in the form of a prompt the execution of which displays the task file of the identified task.

10. The method according to claim 1 wherein the identified task comprises an e-mail message received on a mobile device to be answered on the computer device.

11. The method according to claim 10 wherein the task file for the identified task includes notes entered on the mobile communication device relating to the reply to the email message.

12. The method according to claim 1 wherein the identified task comprises a document obtained using the mobile terminal to be read on the computer device.

13. A method comprising:

initiating a task on a computer device;

identifying the task as a task to be continued on a mobile communication device;

compiling related documents, data, and information relating to the task into a task file associated with the identified task;

establishing a communication connection between the computer device and the mobile communication device; and

transferring the identified task and task file from the computer device to the mobile communication device for continuing performance of the task.

14. The method according to claim 13 wherein the connection is established using a wireless communication channel.

15. The method according to claim 13 further comprising:

enabling the transfer of data identified in a web browser on the computer device to a web browser on the mobile communication device and visa versa to synchronize the respective internet browsers.

16. The method according to claim 15 wherein the data transferred comprises both active and passive data relating to browser settings and preferences to establish a seamless similarity of browsing experience between the mobile communication device browsing services and computer device browsing services.

17. A user interface comprising:

a browser configured to allow the initiation of a task on a mobile communication device using the Internet;

a display configured to allow the identification of the task as a task to be continued on a computer device;

an application presented on the display and configured to compile related documents, data, and information relating to the task into a task file associated with the identified task;

a prompt presented on the display for establishing a communication connection between the computer device and the mobile communication device; and

wherein the browser is further configured to allow the user to selectively actuate the transfer of the identified task and task file from the mobile communication device to the computer device for continuing performance of the task.

18. An apparatus comprising:

a mobile communication device having a processor supported by a memory;

a computer device having a central processing unit and a supporting memory;

a local communication link configured to provide a communication connection between the mobile communication device and the computer device;

transfer application program stored in the memory of the mobile communication device processor and the memory of the computer device for execution by the respective processors; and

wherein said mobile communication device and the computer device further comprise;

means for initiating a task on a mobile communication device;

means for identifying the task as a task to be continued on a computer device;

means for compiling related documents, data, and information relating to the task into a task file associated with the identified task;

means for establishing a communication connection between the computer device and the mobile communication device; and

means for transferring the identified task and task file from the mobile communication device to the computer device for continuing performance of the task.

19. A computer program product comprising:

a computer readable medium having code readable by the processor of a mobile communication device for causing the processor to allow the user to initiate a task on a mobile communication device;

a computer readable medium having code readable by the processor of a mobile communication device for causing the processor to allow the user to identify the task as a task to be continued on a computer device;

a computer readable medium having code readable by the processor of a mobile communication device for causing the processor to allow the user to compile related documents, data, and information relating to the task into a task file associated with the identified task;

a computer readable medium having code readable by the processor of a mobile communication device for causing the processor to allow the user to establish a communication connection between the computer device and the mobile communication device;

a computer readable medium having code readable by the processor of a mobile communication device for causing the processor to allow the user to transfer the identified task and task file from the mobile communication device to the computer device; and

a computer readable medium having code readable by the processor of a computer device for causing the processor to receive the identified task and task file from the mobile communication device and allow the user to continue performing the transferred task on the computer device.
