Abstract

A graphical user interface on a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display includes an airplane mode switch icon with an “on” position and an “off” position. A communications signal strength icon is displayed if the airplane mode switch icon is at the “off” position. The communications signal strength icon is replaced with an airplane icon upon detecting a movement of a finger contact on or near the airplane mode switch icon. The detected movement of the finger contact is from the “off” position to the “on” position.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

at a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display,

displaying an airplane mode switch icon on the touch screen display, the airplane mode switch icon having an “

on”

position and an “

off”

position;

displaying a communications signal strength icon on the touch screen display when the airplane mode switch icon is at the “

off”

position;

detecting a finger-down event at or near the airplane mode switch icon at the “

off”

position, one or more finger-dragging events, and a finger-up event at or near the airplane mode switch icon at the “

on”

position; and

upon detecting a sequence of events, comprising the finger-down event, the one or more finger-dragging events, and the finger-up event, animating a process of an airplane icon moving on the touch screen display towards the communications signal strength icon and moving over the communications signal strength icon until the communications signal strength icon is replaced by the airplane icon.

2. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

at a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display,

displaying an airplane mode switch icon on the touch screen display, the airplane mode switch icon having an “

on”

position and an “

off”

position;

displaying a communications signal strength icon on the touch screen display if the airplane mode switch icon is at the “

off”

position; and

replacing the communications signal strength icon with an airplane icon upon detecting a movement of a finger contact with the touch screen display on or near the airplane mode switch icon, wherein the detected movement of the finger contact is from the “

off”

position to the “

on”

position.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein detecting the movement of the finger contact comprises detecting a sequence of events comprising a finger-down event at or near the airplane mode switch icon at the “

off”

position, one or more finger-dragging events, and a finger-up event at or near the airplane mode switch icon at the “

on”

position.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, further comprising:

if the airplane mode switch icon is at the “

on”

position,

detecting a finger-down event at or near the airplane mode switch icon at the “

on”

position, one or more finger-dragging events, and a finger-up event at or near the airplane mode switch icon at the “

off”

position;

moving the airplane mode switch icon from the “

on”

position to the “

off”

position; and

replacing the plane icon with the communications signal strength icon.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein replacing the communications signal strength icon with the plane icon includes:

moving the plane icon on the touch screen display towards the communications signal strength icon; and

moving the plane icon over the communications signal strength icon.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the portable multifunction device includes a speaker and a sound is played while replacing the communications signal strength icon with the airplane icon.

7. A graphical user interface on a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display, comprising:

an airplane mode switch icon, the airplane mode switch icon having an “

on”

position and an “

off”

position;

wherein;

a communications signal strength icon is displayed if the airplane mode switch icon is at the “

off”

position; and

the communications signal strength icon is replaced with an airplane icon upon detecting a movement of a finger contact on or near the airplane mode switch icon, wherein the detected movement of the finger contact is from the “

off”

position to the “

on”

position.

8. A portable multifunction device, comprising:

a touch screen display;

one or more processors;

memory; and

one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the programs including;

instructions for displaying an airplane mode switch icon on the touch screen display, the airplane mode switch icon having an “

on”

position and an “

off”

position;

instructions for displaying a communications signal strength icon on the touch screen display if the airplane mode switch icon is at the “

off”

position; and

instructions for replacing the communications signal strength icon with an airplane icon upon detecting a movement of a finger contact on or near the airplane mode switch icon, wherein the detected movement of the finger contact is from the “

off”

position to the “

on”

position.

9. A computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display, cause the device to:

display an airplane mode switch icon on the touch screen display, the airplane mode switch icon having an “

on”

position and an “

off”

position;

display a communications signal strength icon on the touch screen display if the airplane mode switch icon is at the “

off”

position; and

replace the communications signal strength icon with an airplane icon upon detecting a movement of a finger contact on or near the airplane mode switch icon, wherein the detected movement of the finger contact is from the “

off”

position to the “

on”

position.

10. A portable multifunction device with a touch screen display, comprising:

means for displaying an airplane mode switch icon on the touch screen display, the airplane mode switch icon having an “

on”

position and an “

off”

position;

means for displaying a communications signal strength icon on the touch screen display if the airplane mode switch icon is at the “

off”

position; and

means for replacing the communications signal strength icon with an airplane icon upon detecting a movement of a finger contact on or near the airplane mode switch icon, wherein the detected movement of the finger contact is from the “

off”

position to the “

on”

position.
