Abstract

A system, computer program product and computer Implemented method of communicating with a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) application session using a messaging service are provided. The system, computer program product and computer-Implemented method register the SIP application session with a messaging server. The system, computer program product and computer-Implemented method then publish an addressable messaging endpoint corresponding to the SIP application session in response to registering the SIP application session with the messaging server. Consequently, communication with the SIP application session can occur via messages directed to the published addressable messaging endpoint.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method of communicating with a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) application session using a messaging service comprising:

registering the SIP application session with a messaging server;

publishing an addressable messaging endpoint corresponding to the SIP application session in response to registering the SIP application session with the messaging server; and

communicating with the SIP application session via messages directed to the published addressable messaging endpoint.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein the addressable messaging endpoint includes a session identification (ID) assigned to the SIP application session upon creation of the SIP application session.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 wherein the session ID is a message selector, the message selector being used by the messaging server to filter messages directed to the SIP application session.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 3 wherein the messages are Web services or hypertext transport protocol (HTTP) requests and responses.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 4 wherein the messaging server is an application server that has been configured as a messaging server point-to-point queue.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 wherein registering the SIP application session with the messaging server includes subscribing the SIP application session to a message topic.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein the session ID is a message selector, the message selector allowing the SIP application session to select messages addressed thereto.

8. A computer program product on a computer readable medium for allowing for communication with a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) application session using a messaging service comprising:

code means for registering the SIP application session with a messaging server;

code means for publishing an addressable messaging endpoint corresponding to the SIP application session in response to registering the SIP application session with the messaging server; and

code means for communicating with the SIP application session via messages directed to the published addressable messaging endpoint.

9. The computer program product of claim 8 wherein the addressable messaging endpoint includes a session identification (ID) assigned to the SIP application session upon creation of the SIP application session.

10. The computer program product of claim 9 wherein the session ID is a message selector, the message selector being used by the messaging server to filter messages directed to the SIP application session.

11. The computer program product of claim 10 wherein the messages are Web services or hypertext transport protocol (HTTP) requests and responses.

12. The computer program product of claim 11 wherein the messaging server is an application server that has been configured as a messaging server point-to-point queue.

13. The computer program product of claim 12 wherein registering the SIP application session with the messaging server includes subscribing the SIP application session to a message topic.

14. The computer program product of claim 8 wherein the session ID is a message selector, the message selector allowing the SIP application session to select messages addressed thereto.

15. A computer system for communicating with a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) application session using a messaging service comprising:

at least one storage system for storing code data; and

at least one processor for processing the code data to register the SIP application session with a messaging server, to publish an addressable messaging endpoint corresponding to the SIP application session in response to registering the SIP application session with the messaging server, and to communicate with the SIP application session via messages directed to the published addressable messaging endpoint.

16. The computer system of claim 15 wherein the addressable messaging endpoint includes a session identification (ID) assigned to the SIP application session upon creation of the SIP application session.

17. The computer system of claim 16 wherein the session ID is a message selector, the message selector being used by the messaging server to filter messages directed to the SIP application session.

18. The computer system of claim 17 wherein the messages are Web services or hypertext transport protocol (HTTP) requests and responses.

19. The computer system of claim 18 wherein the messaging server is an application server that has been configured as a messaging server point-to-point queue.

20. The computer system of claim 19 wherein registering the SIP application session with the messaging server includes subscribing the SIP application session to a messaging topic.
