Abstract

A method associated with a contactless phone. The method includes sending a balance inquiry response message to a mobile phone. The mobile phone includes a contactless element that is configured to communicate with a contactless reader in a point of sale terminal. The account balance inquiry response message provides an account balance for an account associated with the mobile phone. The mobile phone is operated by a consumer. The method also includes sending a transaction alert message to the mobile phone, where the transaction alert message informs the consumer that a transaction has occurred using the account. The method also includes sending an offer message to the mobile phone, where the offer message provides a benefit to the consumer if the consumer uses the mobile phone to conduct a predetermined transaction.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving an account balance inquiry response message using a mobile phone, wherein the mobile phone comprises a contactless element that is configured to communicate with a contactless reader in a point of sale terminal, and wherein the account balance inquiry response message provides an account balance for an account associated with the mobile phone, the mobile phone being operated by a consumer;

receiving a transaction alert message using the mobile phone, wherein the transaction alert informs the consumer that a transaction has occurred using the account; and

receiving an offer message, wherein the offer message provides a benefit for the consumer if the consumer uses the mobile phone to a conduct predetermined transaction.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

generating a payment reminder message using the mobile phone.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving a balance threshold alert message, wherein the balance threshold alert message alerts the consumer when a previously specified balance threshold is surpassed.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving a risk alert message, wherein the risk alert message alerts the consumer about suspicious activity relating to the account and informs the consumer that the account is blocked.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving a transaction failure receipt message using the mobile phone.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the phone comprises a secure element comprising an issuer specific payment application.

7. A computer readable medium comprising:

code for receiving an account balance inquiry response message using a mobile phone, wherein the mobile phone comprises a contactless element that is configured to communicate with a contactless reader in a point of sale terminal, and wherein the account balance inquiry response message provides an account balance for an account associated with the mobile phone, the mobile phone being operated by a consumer;

code for receiving a transaction alert message using the mobile phone, wherein the transaction alert informs the consumer that a transaction has occurred using the account; and

code for receiving an offer message, wherein the offer message provides a benefit for the consumer if the consumer uses the mobile phone to a conduct predetermined transaction.

8. The computer readable medium of claim 7 further comprising code for generating a payment reminder using the mobile phone.

9. The computer readable medium of claim 7 further comprising code for receiving a balance threshold alert message, wherein the balance threshold alert message alerts the consumer when a previously specified balance threshold is surpassed.

10. The computer readable medium of claim 7 further comprising code for receiving a transaction failure receipt message.

11. A phone comprising the computer readable medium of claim 7.

12. A method comprising:

sending a balance inquiry response message to a mobile phone, wherein the mobile phone comprises a contactless element that is configured to communicate with a contactless reader in a point of sale terminal, and wherein the account balance inquiry response message provides an account balance for an account associated with the mobile phone, the mobile phone being operated by a consumer;

sending a transaction alert message to the mobile phone, wherein the transaction alert message informs the consumer that a transaction has occurred using the account; and

sending an offer message to the mobile phone, wherein the offer message provides a benefit to the consumer if the consumer uses the mobile phone to conduct a predetermined transaction.

13. The method of claim 12 comprising:

sending a payment reminder message to the mobile phone.

14. The method of claim 12 further comprising:

sending a risk alert message to the mobile phone, wherein the risk alert message alerts the consumer about suspicious activity relating to the account and informs the consumer that the account is blocked.

15. The method of claim 12 further comprising:

sending a balance threshold alert message, wherein the balance threshold alert message alerts the consumer when a previously specified balance threshold is surpassed.

16. A computer readable medium comprising:

code for sending a balance inquiry response message to a mobile phone, wherein the mobile phone comprises a contactless element that is configured to communicate with a contactless reader in a point of sale terminal, and wherein the account balance inquiry response message provides an account balance for an account associated with the mobile phone, the mobile phone being operated by a consumer;

code for sending a transaction alert message to the mobile phone, wherein the transaction alert message informs the consumer that a transaction has occurred using the account; and

code for sending an offer message to the mobile phone, wherein the offer message provides a benefit to the consumer if the consumer uses the mobile phone to conduct a predetermined transaction.

17. The computer readable medium of claim 16 further comprising:

code for sending a payment reminder message to the mobile phone.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 16 further comprising:

code for sending a balance threshold alert message, wherein the balance threshold alert message alerts the consumer when a previously specified balance threshold is surpassed.

19. A communications server comprising a processor, and the computer readable medium of claim 16, operatively coupled to the processor.
