Abstract

A system and a method are disclosed for multi-prefix, interactive search capability on a mobile communications device. A keystroke is input into a search query field of a landing page and a multi-prefix search is performed. The landing page is refreshed to display the results. The landing page displays a first tier of search results, which can include channels or links to web pages associated with the user input. If the search result that is selected is a channel, the channel is displayed. If the search result that is selected is a web page, the web page is displayed. The landing page corresponding to the selected channel, or to the web page, may then be searched or explored. If the desired channel is not displayed within the first tier of search results, another keystroke may be input. The landing page refreshes accordingly and additional keystrokes may be entered.

Claims

1. A method for searching and displaying results, comprising:

receiving a user input comprising an alphanumeric character;

displaying a first tier of search results that comprise at least one channel corresponding to the user input;

receiving a channel selection of the at least one channel of the first tier of search results; and

displaying information corresponding to the channel selection.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying a second tier of search results that comprise at least one channel corresponding to the user input.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving input of a prefix delimiter; and

receiving a second alphanumeric character, wherein the alphanumeric character and second alphanumeric character represent a multi-prefix search query.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the prefix delimiter is a space character.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein information corresponding to the channel further comprises:

information to display a landing page of the channel.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein information corresponding to the channel further comprises:

information to display a search query field of the channel.

7. A computer system for displaying search results, comprising:

means for receiving a user input comprising an alphanumeric character;

means for displaying a first tier of search results that comprise at least one channel corresponding to the user input;

means for receiving a channel selection of the at least one channel of the first tier of search results; and

means for displaying information corresponding to the channel selection.

8. The system of claim 7, further comprising:

means for displaying a second tier of search results that comprise at least one channel corresponding to the user input.

9. The system of claim 7, further comprising:

means for receiving input of a prefix delimiter; and

means for receiving a second alphanumeric character, wherein the alphanumeric character and second alphanumeric character represent a multi-prefix search query.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the prefix delimiter is a space character.

11. The system of claim 7, wherein information corresponding to the channel further comprises:

information to display a landing page of the channel.

12. The system of claim 7, wherein information corresponding to the channel further comprises:

information to display a search query field of the channel.

13. A method for searching and displaying search results, comprising:

receiving a user input comprising a plurality of prefixes;

creating a query using the plurality of prefixes;

searching a plurality of fields associated with a data set for at least one match to the query;

determining at least one result corresponding to the match; and

sending the at least one result for display on a client device.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein each of the plurality of prefixes is an alphanumeric character.

15. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

receiving a prefix delimiter.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the prefix delimiter is a space character.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein the data set is a structured data set.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the data set is an unstructured data set.

19. The method of claim 13, wherein sending the at least one result for display further comprises:

sending additional information associated with the at least one result for display.

20. A system for displaying search results on a mobile communications device, comprising:

means for receiving a user input comprising a plurality of prefixes;

means for creating a query using the plurality of prefixes;

means for searching a plurality of fields associated with a data set for at least one match to the query;

means for determining at least one result corresponding to the match; and

means for sending the at least one result for display on a client device.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein each of the plurality of prefixes is an alphanumeric character.

22. The system of claim 20, further comprising:

means for receiving a prefix delimiter.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the prefix delimiter is a space character.

24. The system of claim 20, wherein the data set is a structured data set.

25. The system of claim 20, wherein the data set is an unstructured data set.

26. The system of claim 20, wherein sending the at least one result for display further comprises:

means for sending additional information associated with the at least one result for display.

27. A method for searching and displaying search results on a mobile communications device, comprising:

receiving a search query from the mobile communication device, wherein the search query includes at least one alphanumeric character of an entire search term;

determining at least one search result associated with the search query; and

sending the at least one search result for display on the mobile communications device.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein the search query includes at least one prefix delimiter.

29. The method of claim 27, wherein the prefix delimiter is a space character

30. The method of claim 27, wherein the entire search term contains multiple terms.

31. The method of claim 27, further comprising:

displaying search results on a mobile communications device.
