Abstract

Methods and systems are provided for displaying scrollable information with an improved indicator of relative position. Certain embodiments may be use a focus element that indicates, by its relative position within the display, the relative position of the scrollable information displayed.

Claims

1. An electronic device comprising:

a processor; and

a memory for storing computer readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to display scrollable information in a display of the mobile electronic device, wherein the display includes a focus element to indicate a relative position of the scrollable information by a relative position of the focus element within the display.

2. The electronic device of claim 1 wherein the relative position of the focus element indicates a vertical position of the scrollable information.

3. The electronic device of claim 1 wherein the relative position of the focus element indicates a horizontal position of the scrollable information.

4. The electronic device of claim 1 wherein the scrollable information includes a plurality of panes, wherein the focus element includes one of the plurality of panes.

5. The device of claim 1 wherein fading at an edge of the display indicates a scrollable direction.

6. A method comprising:

displaying scrollable information in a display of an electronic device, wherein the display includes a focus element; and

indicating a relative position of the scrollable information by a relative position of the focus element within the display.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising:

receiving directional input;

adjusting the relative position of the focus element based on the directional input.

8. The method of claim 6 wherein the relative position of the focus element indicates a vertical position of the scrollable information.

9. The method of claim 6 wherein the relative position of the focus element indicates a horizontal position of the scrollable information.

10. The method of claim 6 wherein the scrollable information includes a plurality of panes, the focus element including at least one of the plurality of panes.

11. A method comprising:

displaying scrollable information in a display of an electronic device, wherein the display includes a prominent pane and a non-prominent pane; and

indicating a relative position of the scrollable information by a relative position of the prominent pane within the display.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the prominent pane is taller than the non-prominent pane.

13. The method of claim 11 wherein the prominent pane contains highlighted information.

14. The method of claim 11 wherein the prominent pane includes a first background and the non-prominent pane includes a second background, wherein the first background brighter than the second background.

15. The method of claim 11 wherein the prominent pane is focused and the non-prominent pane is unfocused.

16. The method of claim 11 further comprising,

indicating whether the scrollable information is scrollable by activating a human perceivable stimulus.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the human perceivable stimulus is a fading of the non-prominent pane when positioned at an edge of the display if the scrollable information is scrollable.
