Abstract

The present invention provides a point of view video system comprising: a camera for receiving an image and for generating a video signal; a portable video image recording module including: a display; one or more user activators; a communication interface for signally communicating with the camera that is remote from the recording module; a power source; a speaker; a processing device in signaling communication with the display, the one or more user activators, the speaker, and the communication interface for processing data; and a sealed housing for containing the recording module, the sealed housing being separable from the camera.

Claims

1. A point of view video system comprising:

a. a camera for receiving an image and for generating a video signal;

b. a portable video image recording module including;

i) a display;

ii) one or more user activators;

iii) a communication interface for signally communicating with the camera that is remote from the recording module;

iv) a power source;

v) a speaker;

vi) a processing device in signaling communication with the display, the one or more user activators, the speaker, and the communication interface for processing data; and

c. a sealed housing for containing the recording module, the sealed housing being separable from the camera.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising an electronic storage medium, a microphone, a light, a remote control having one or more user activators, one or more I/O ports, or any combination thereof.

The system of claim 2, wherein the sealed housing is separated from the camera, the signally communicating of the communication interface is achieved through a wireless communication, the camera is connected by a cable to the recording module, the one or more user activators of the recording module are located between the display and a speaker grille, the remote control is wireless such that the remote control is not tethered to the recording module, the sealed housing is a generally elongated housing, the sealed housing includes a generally common forward surface with which the display device and the user one or more user activators are generally coextensive, the sealed housing includes a curved rearward surface, the recording module is free of a QWERT keyboard, the recording module is free of an image sensor, or any combination thereof

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the wireless communication is through radiofrequency, IR, or both.

5. The system of claim 2, wherein the one or more user activators of the remote control includes a first activator for recording a video, tagging a video while recording, or both and a second activator for stopping recording.

6. The system of claim 2, wherein the one or more activators of the recording module, the remote control, or both includes a tagging activator, which when activated, creates a data file that corresponds to the recorded video for defining at least one locatable mark in a timeline bar during the playback of the recorded video using a video playback program.

7. The system of claim 2, wherein the one or more activators of the recording module, the remote control, or both includes a tagging activator, which selectively stores one or more predetermined time intervals of recorded video upon activation of the tagging activator.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the recording module continually records video until the storage medium is full of selectively stored tagged video, or the user stops the recording.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the power source is isolated thermally, electrically, or both from the processing device.

10. The system of claim 2, wherein the one or more I/O ports are configured for communication with one or more external devices, wherein the one or more external devices is a computer, an external microphone, an external light, an external display, an external camera, or any combination thereof.

11. The system of claim 2, wherein the sealed housing includes a removable cover that allows access to the one or more I/O ports, the storage medium, the power source, or any combination thereof.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the removable cover is configured to nest in the sealed housing, the removable cover includes a locking mechanism for attaching to the sealed housing, the removable cover is located at an end of the sealed housing, or any combination thereof.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the removable cover is configure to be generally flush with the sealed housing on its outer surface.

14. The system of claim 3, wherein the sealed housing includes a bezel.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the bezel provides an aesthetic design, structural reinforcement, rigidly, enclosure of the sealed housing, or any combination thereof, for the sealed housing, the bezel extends over a peripheral edge portion of the forward surface thereby enclosing the sealed housing, the bezel is fixedly secured to the forward surface, or any combination thereof.

16. A point of view video system comprising:

a. a camera for receiving an image and for generating a video signal;

b. a portable video image recording module that is operable to record video and tagging video;

c. a sealed housing for containing the recording module, the sealed housing being separate from the camera, but in signaling communication therewith; and

d. a remote control having one or more user activators, the one or more activators including a first activator for recording a video, tagging a video while it is recording, or both and a second activator for stopping recording.

17. A point of view video system comprising:

a. a camera for receiving an image and for generating a video signal;

b. a remote control having a first user activator for recording a video, tagging a video, or both and a second user activator for stopping recording;

c. a portable video image recording module including;

i) a display;

ii) one or more user activators;

iii) a communication interface for signally communicating with a camera that is remote from the recording module;

iv) a power source;

v) a speaker;

vi) an electronic storage medium;

vii) a processing device in signaling communication with the display, the first user activator, the second activator, the one or more activators, the speaker, and the communication interface for processing data and being isolated thermally and electrically from the power source;

viii) one or more I/O ports for communication with one or more external devices; and

d. a generally elongated sealed housing for containing the recording module, the sealed housing being separate from the camera;

the sealed housing including a generally common forward surface with which the display device and the one or more user activator are generally coextensive, and a curved rearward surface; and

wherein the sealed housing includes a removable cover located at an end of the sealed housing that allows access to one or more I/O ports, a storage medium, the power source, or any combination thereof, the removable cover includes a locking mechanism for attaching to the sealed housing;

e. a microphone, a light, or both;

f. a cable connecting the sealed housing with the camera;

wherein the one or more user activators are located between the display and the speaker grille.

18. A method for selectively creating one or more locatable marks during the playback of recorded video comprising the steps of:

recording a video that includes a video signal, an audio signal, or both;

activating a tagging activator at a time frame during the recording step thereby creating a data file that includes information about the recorded video;

accessing the recorded video using a video playback program that includes a video timeline bar, the video timeline bar configured for showing a representation of the video progress with respect to time;

accessing the information included in the data file for playback of the recorded video;

wherein the video playback program creates at least one locatable mark in the video timeline bar that corresponds to the time frame of the activating step; and

wherein the user accesses the at least one locatable mark for direct access to the recorded video that was recorded at the time frame of the activating step.

19. A method for selectively storing one or more intervals of recorded video comprising the steps of:

setting a record time interval, which defines a length of time of recorded video that is stored upon activation of a tagging activator;

recording a video that includes a video signal, an audio signal, or both;

activating the tagging activator during the recording step thereby storing at least one tagged portion of video with a recorded length of video having generally at least one record time interval.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the at least one stored tagged portion of recorded video includes a first portion of stored video that is recorded generally prior to the activating step having a recorded length of the record time interval, a second portion of stored video that is recorded generally after the activating step having a recorded length of the record time interval, or both.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the stored tagged portion of video is stored on a storage medium.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the recording step, the video is continually recorded until the storage medium is full of one or more of the at least one stored tagged portion of recorded video stored on the storage medium or the user stops the recording.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein untagged recorded video is temporarily stored on the storage medium until the untagged recorded video is replaced by the at least one stored tagged portion of recorded video.
