Abstract

A lighting device comprising: a light emitting diode lighting panel having first and second opposing surfaces; light emitting diodes at a periphery of light emitting diode lighting panel for emitting light through the first surface; a reflective surface at the second surface of the light emitting diode lighting panel; and a power supply unit connected to the light emitting diode panel, the power supply having first and second ends, and electrical circuitry for converting alternating current to direct current between the first and second ends, wherein the first end is for insertion into the a socket.

Claims

1. A lighting device comprising:

a light emitting diode lighting panel having first and second opposing surfaces;

light emitting diodes at a periphery of light emitting diode lighting panel for emitting light through the first surface;

a reflective surface at the second surface of the light emitting diode lighting panel; and

a power supply unit connected to the light emitting diode panel, the power supply having first and second ends, and electrical circuitry for converting alternating current to direct current between the first and second ends,

wherein the first end is for insertion into the a socket.

2. The lighting device of claim 1, wherein the first end of the power supply fits into the light socket for one of an incandescent and fluorescent light bulb.

3. The lighting device of claim 1, further comprising:

a first connector attached to the second surface of the light emitting diode lighting panel; and

a second connector for reversibly connecting the power supply to the light emitting diode lighting panel and for attachment to the second end of the power supply unit.

4. The lighting device of claim 1 wherein the light emitting diode lighting panel includes a flexible strip of light emitting diodes and a light guide panel.

5. The lighting device of claim 1, further comprising a knob and a groove wherein the distance between the first end of the power supply and the light emitting diodes is adjusted by sliding the knob in groove.

6. The lighting device of claim 5, wherein the light guide panel has a convex surface.

7. A lighting device comprising:

a light emitting diode lighting panel having first and second opposing surfaces;

light emitting diodes arranged at a periphery of the light emitting diode lighting panel for emitting light through the first surface;

a reflective surface on the second surface of the light emitting diode lighting panel;

a power supply unit for the light emitting diode panel containing electrical circuitry for converting alternating current to direct current, and the power supply unit having first and second ends; and

a flexible attachment piece attached to the second end of the power supply for redirecting the light emitting diode lighting panel.

8. The lighting device of claim 7, wherein the first end of the power supply fits into a socket for one of an incandescent and fluorescent light bulb.

9. The lighting device of claim 7, further comprising:

a first connector attached to the second surface of the light emitting diode lighting panel; and

a second connector for reversibly connecting the power supply to the light emitting diode lighting panel and for attachment to the second end of the power supply unit.

10. The lighting device of claim 7, wherein the light emitting diode lighting panel includes a flexible strip of light emitting diodes and a light guide panel.

11. The lighting device of claim 7, further comprising a knob and a groove wherein the distance between the first end of the power supply and the light emitting diodes is adjusted by sliding the knob in groove.

12. The lighting device of claim 11, wherein the light guide panel has a convex surface.

13. A lighting device for insertion into a can having an opening, comprising:

a light emitting diode lighting panel having first and second opposing surfaces;

light emitting diodes arranged at a periphery of the first surface of the light emitting diode lighting panel for emitting light through the first surface;

a reflective surface on the second surface of the light emitting diode lighting panel; and

a power supply unit for the light emitting diode panel containing electrical circuitry to convert alternating current to direct current, and the power supply unit having first and second ends, wherein;

the first end of the power supply has a first cross-sectional width and fits into a socket for one of an incandescent and fluorescent light bulb, and the light emitting diode panel has a second width greater than four times the first cross-sectional width of the first end of the power supply.

14. The lighting device of claim 13, wherein the light emitting diode lighting panel is affixed to a side of the can via a spring.

15. The lighting device of claim 13, wherein the lighting device further includes a flexible attachment piece that attaches the second end of the power supply to the light emitting diode lighting panel.

16. The lighting device of claim 13, wherein the lighting device further includes:

a first connector attached to the second surface of the light emitting diode lighting panel; and

a second connector for reversibly connecting the power supply to the light emitting diode lighting panel and for attaching to the second end of the power supply unit.

17. The lighting device of claim 13, wherein the light emitting diode lighting panel includes a flexible strip of light emitting diodes and a light guide panel.

18. The lighting device of claim 13, further comprising a knob and a groove wherein the distance between the first end of the power supply and the light emitting diodes is adjusted by sliding the knob in groove.

19. The lighting device of claim 18 wherein the light guide panel has a convex surface.
