Abstract

A method and a mobile terminal for scrolling data on a screen. The method includes storing scroll bar information, displaying at least one data file and a scroll bar for scrolling a screen displaying the data file, and selectively changing a characteristic of the scroll bar. Changing the characteristic of the scroll bar includes changing at least one of the scroll bar size, shape, display location, and color.

Claims

1. A method for scrolling data in a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

storing scroll bar information;

displaying data and a scroll bar for scrolling a screen displaying the data; and

selectively changing a characteristic of the scroll bar responsive to the scroll bar information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein changing the characteristic of the scroll bar includes changing at least one of the scroll bar size, shape, display location, and color.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the scroll bar is displayed in a predetermined size regardless of a quantity of the displayed data.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the scroll bar is displayed on a touch input device.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the touch input device displays a screen for changing the size of the scroll bar upon contact with the scroll bar.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein changing of the scroll bar size is in accordance with contact and dragging of a specific area of the displayed scroll bar.

7. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

displaying the scroll bar to scroll a screen displaying at least a portion of the data; and

displaying location information indicating a location of the portion of the data among a total quantity of the data,

wherein the location information is displayed on a specific area contiguous to or overlapped on the scroll bar.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the displaying location information divides an area of the scroll bar into a specific number of sub-areas based on the total quantity of the data, and displays the location information as at least one of a shape, a symbol, and a character on a specific sub-area.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the specific sub-area displaying location information is displayed in a color different from colors of other sub-areas.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein the location information is displayed as at least one of a symbol, a number, and a character.

11. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

displaying the scroll bar in a specific color to scroll a screen displaying the data; and

changing the specific color.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the scroll bar is displayed in a different color according to a type of the displayed data.

13. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

outputting one or more of audio, vibration, and light if the scroll bar moves.

14. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

storing one or more shape information of the scroll bar information and data to be displayed.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein changing specific shape information is performed by selecting a different shape from the stored one or more shape information.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein displaying the data displays a shape of the scroll bar differently according to a type of the displayed data.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the shape information comprises an icon.

18. A mobile terminal, comprising:

a memory for storing data and scroll bar information;

a display for displaying a scroll bar to scroll a screen on the display; and

a controller for controlling the scroll bar and the display of the scroll bar according to the stored information,

wherein a characteristic of the scroll bar can be selectively changed.

19. The mobile terminal of claim 18, wherein changing a characteristic of the scroll bar includes changing at least one of the scroll bar size, display location, color, and shape.

20. The mobile terminal of claim 19, wherein the display comprises a touch input device to display the scroll bar.

21. The mobile terminal of claim 20, wherein the controller controls the display for displaying a second screen to change the size of the scroll bar upon contact with the scroll bar.

22. The mobile terminal of claim 20, wherein the controller controls changing the size of the scroll bar when a specific area of the scroll bar is touched and dragged.

23. The mobile terminal of claim 20, wherein the controller controls the display to display a location information indicating a location of the displayed portion of the data among a total quantity of the data.

24. The mobile terminal of claim 23, wherein the controller divides an area of the scroll bar into a specific number of sub-areas based on the total quantity of the data, and controls the location information to be displayed as at least one of a shape, a symbol, and a character on a specific sub-area of the sub-areas.

25. The mobile terminal of claim 24, wherein the controller controls the specific sub-area displaying the location information in a color different from colors of the other sub-areas.

26. The mobile terminal of claim 23, wherein the controller controls the location information to be displayed as at least one of a symbol, a number, and a character.

27. The mobile terminal of claim 20, wherein the controller controls the display to display the scroll bar in a specific color, wherein the user selectively sets the specific color.

28. The mobile terminal of claim 27, wherein the controller controls the scroll bar to be displayed in a color according to a type of the displayed data.

29. The mobile terminal of claim 20, wherein the controller controls the scroll bar according to a specific shape information from the stored scroll bar information, wherein the specific shape information is selectively changeable.

30. The mobile terminal of claim 29, further comprising an input unit, wherein the controller controls the display to display the scroll bar according to the specific shape information selected by the input unit.

31. The mobile terminal of claim 29, wherein the controller displays the shape of the scroll bar according to a type of the data displayed.

32. The mobile terminal of claim 29, wherein the shape information comprises an icon.

33. The mobile terminal of claim 20, further comprising:

an audio processor for generating audio;

a vibrator for generating vibration; and

a lighting device for generating light,

wherein the controller controls one or more of the audio, vibrator, and lighting device to operate when the scroll bar moves.

34. The mobile terminal of claim 20, wherein the scroll bar is displayed in a predetermined size regardless of a quantity of the displayed data.
