Abstract

A method of unifying web services and telecom network management is described. The method comprises exporting an external model representation of at least one entity of a service oriented architecture of a service oriented architecture manager and importing the exported external model representation of the at least one entity as a network management data model entity of a network manager. The method further comprises subscribing, by the network manager, to subsequent updates of the at least one entity.

Claims

1. A method of unifying web services and telecom network management, comprising:

exporting an external model representation of at least one entity of a service model of a service oriented architecture manager;

importing the external model representation of the at least one entity as a network management data model entity of a network manager; and

subscribing, by the network manager, to subsequent updates of the at least one entity.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the importing further comprises:

mapping a service attribute to a corresponding attribute of the network management data model entity.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the importing further comprises:

mapping a service unique identifier to a corresponding entity identification of the network management data model entity.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the importing further comprises:

mapping a service fault to a corresponding entity fault of the network management data model entity.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises:

generating an alert, by the service oriented architecture manager, based on a fault of the at least one entity of the service model or based on a service attribute differing from a threshold value; and

after subscription of the network manager, receiving the generated alert at the network manager.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the generating an alert comprises:

generating an alert comprising a service outage announcement based on at least one of the fault or the service attribute exceeding a threshold value.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the receiving the generated alert comprises:

updating information of an entity in the network management data model responsive to receipt of an alert generated from the service oriented architecture manager.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the receiving the generated alert comprises:

receiving updated information of an entity in the service model corresponding to an entity in the network management data model.

9. The method of claim 5, wherein the receiving the generated alert comprises:

requesting an update of information in the service model, responsive to receipt of an alert signal from the service oriented architecture manager.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the requesting an update of information comprises:

requesting an update of particular entity information in service model corresponding to an entity in the network management data model.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the importing comprises:

applying a rule set to the exported external model representation.

12. A system for unifying web services and telecom network management, comprising:

a service oriented architecture manager arranged to generate;

(a) a service model of at least one web service and (b) an external model representation of the service model; and

a network manager arranged to import the generated external model representation of the service model into a network management data model.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the network manager is further arranged to subscribe to alerts corresponding to changes in the service oriented architecture manager service model, comprising one of a change in the dependencies of a business service on one or more Web service, and a change in one of a fault status and a performance metric of one of the business service and the Web service.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the network manager further comprises a rule set specifying at least one import rule to be applied to at least one entity of the external model representation.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the rule set further comprises at least one function rule to be applied to at least one entity of the external model representation.

16. The system of claim 12, wherein the network manager is further arranged to generate at least one update request responsive to receipt of an alert from the service oriented architecture manager.

17. The system of claim 12, wherein the service oriented architecture manager is further arranged to generate an alert based on a fault or performance degradation or recovery from at least one of the Web services or business services.

18. A system for generating an alert in a telecom network management system based on an alert from a web services system, comprising:

a web services system comprising a service model of at least one web service and arranged to;

(a) generate an external model representation of the service model;

(b) transfer the external model representation to a network manager;

(c) receive a subscription request from the network manager with respect to the transferred external model representation; and

(d) transfer an alert to the network manager based on an alert generated by at least one of the Web services or business services in the service model.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the web services system service model comprises at least one business service comprising at least one web service dependency.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the web services system is further arranged to transfer updated information based on the service model in response to receipt of an update request from the network manager or based on subscription by the network manager to changes in the service model.

21. The system of claim 19, wherein the service model further comprises dependency information.

22. A memory or a computer-readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to export an external model representation of at least one entity of a service model of a service oriented architecture manager;

import the exported external model representation of the at least one entity as a network management data model entity of a network manager; and

subscribe, by the network manager, to subsequent updates of the at least one entity.
