Abstract

In the context of a site analysis report showing paths between nodes, nodes are automatically positioned within the report in an intelligent manner, according to specified criteria so as to provide useful information about the represented pages. For example, the Y-axis can indicate relative depth of a page in the site, while the X-axis represents conversion rate. Alternatively, node position can represent any other quantitatively representable data, either specified as a default or selected by the user. In one embodiment, the automatic positioning can be overridden by a user, if desired.

Claims

1. A method of generating a site analysis report comprising a plurality of nodes, comprising:

for each node, automatically establishing a position along a first axis responsive to a first quantitative value associated with the node;

for each node, automatically establishing a position along a second axis responsive to a second quantitative value associated with the node; and

outputting a site analysis report, wherein each node of at least a subset of the nodes is shown at a location defined by the established positions along the first and second axes.

2. The site analysis report method of claim 1, wherein the first quantitative value represents conversion rate and the second quantitative value represents page depth.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the site analysis report further comprises at least one connection between two nodes.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the site analysis report further comprises a plurality of connections between the nodes, wherein the displayed connections represent website visitation patterns.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising, prior to outputting the site analysis report, automatically adjusting at least one of the established positions.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising, prior to outputting the site analysis report, automatically adjusting at least one of the established positions to improve legibility of the report.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving user input to adjust at least one of the established positions; and

adjusting at least one of the established positions responsive to the received user input.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein outputting the site analysis report comprises displaying the site analysis report on a display screen.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein outputting the site analysis report comprises printing the site analysis report.

10. A computer program product for generating a site analysis report comprising a plurality of nodes, comprising:

a computer-readable medium; and

computer program code, encoded on the medium, for;

for each node, automatically establishing a position along a first axis responsive to a first quantitative value associated with the node;

for each node, automatically establishing a position along a second axis responsive to a second quantitative value associated with the node; and

outputting a site analysis report, wherein each node of at least a subset of the nodes is shown at a location defined by the established positions along the first and second axes.

11. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the first quantitative value represents conversion rate and the second quantitative value represents page depth.

12. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the site analysis report further comprises at least one connection between two nodes.

13. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the site analysis report further comprises a plurality of connections between the nodes, wherein the displayed connections represent website visitation patterns.

14. The computer program product of claim 10, further comprising, prior to outputting the site analysis report, automatically adjusting at least one of the established positions.

15. The computer program product of claim 10, further comprising computer program code for, prior to outputting the site analysis report, automatically adjusting at least one of the established positions to improve legibility of the report.

16. The computer program product of claim 10, further comprising computer program code for:

receiving user input to adjust at least one of the established positions; and

adjusting at least one of the established positions responsive to the received user input.

17. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the computer program code for outputting the site analysis report comprises computer program code for displaying the site analysis report on a display screen.

18. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the computer program code for outputting the site analysis report comprises computer program code for printing the site analysis report.

19. A system for generating a site analysis report comprising a plurality of nodes, comprising:

a path analysis report module, for;

for each node, automatically establishing a position along a first axis responsive to a first quantitative value associated with the node;

for each node, automatically establishing a position along a second axis responsive to a second quantitative value associated with the node; and

an output device, coupled to the path analysis report module, for outputting a site analysis report, wherein each node of at least a subset of the nodes is shown at a location defined by the established positions along the first and second axes.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the first quantitative value represents conversion rate and the second quantitative value represents page depth.

21. The system of claim 19, wherein the site analysis report further comprises a plurality of connections between the nodes, wherein the displayed connections represent website visitation patterns.

22. The system of claim 19, wherein, prior to the output device outputting the site analysis report, the path analysis report module automatically adjusts at least one of the established positions.

23. The system of claim 19, further comprising, prior to outputting the site analysis report, automatically adjusting at least one of the established positions to improve legibility of the report.

24. The system of claim 19, further comprising:

an input device, for receiving user input to adjust at least one of the established positions;

wherein the path analysis report module adjusts at least one of the established positions responsive to the received user input.

25. The system of claim 19, wherein the output device comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of:

a display screen; and

a printer.
