1. An input device for a clinician to control and modify the operation of a mechanical ventilator, the mechanical ventilator disposed to provide medical gas to a patient according to a respiratory therapy trajectory, the input device comprising:
- a graphical display;
a respiratory therapy trajectory representative of the medical gas to be delivered to the patient;
at least one data point associated with the trajectory;
a data input means to select a data point and to modify the respiratory therapy trajectory at the data point;
a display of at least one numerical value, the numerical value being calculated by the input device based upon the respiratory therapy trajectory.

Abstract
An input device for a clinician to control and modify the operation of a mechanical ventilator comprises a graphical display, a representation of a respiratory therapy trajectory to be delivered to a patient, at least one data point associated with the trajectory, and a data input means for the clinician to select a data point and to modify the value of the trajectory at that data point. The present invention provides for the creation and modification of a respiratory therapy trajectory, wherein the ventilator provides a medical gas waveform to a patient according to the respiratory therapy trajectory.

14. A method of controlling the provision of a waveform of medical gas by a mechanical ventilator, the method comprising:
