Abstract

Methods, devices, and products are disclosed for targeting media. Descriptive information is received that describes media. The descriptive information is compared to a stored set of user-defined criteria. If the descriptive information contains any criterion, then the media is stored in memory, wherein the stored media is targeted to a user'"'"'s communications device.

Claims

1. A method for targeting media, comprising:

receiving descriptive information that describes media;

comparing the descriptive information to a stored set of user-defined criteria; and

if the descriptive information contains any criterion, then storing the media in memory,

wherein the stored media is targeted to a user'"'"'s communications device.

2. A method according to claim 1, wherein receiving the descriptive information comprises receiving descriptive text that describes the media, and wherein the descriptive text is compared to keywords contain within the set of user-defined criteria.

3. A method according to claim 1, wherein receiving the descriptive information comprises receiving at least one of i) a header comprising the descriptive information and ii) a file that accompanies the media and that comprises the descriptive information.

4. A method according to claim 1, further comprising sending information describing at least one of i) a frequency of presentation of the stored media, ii) a time of presentation of the stored media, iii) preceding content that precedes presentation of the stored media, iv) subsequent content that follows presentation of the stored media, and vi) demographic information describing the user.

5. A method according to claim 1, further comprising adding additional keywords to the set of user-defined keywords based on comparison matches.

6. A method for targeting media to a user, comprising:

sending descriptive information that describes media to a user'"'"'s communications device; and

receiving information describing comparison matches between the descriptive information and a set of user-defined criteria that are stored in memory of the user'"'"'s communications device.

7. A method according to claim 6, wherein sending the descriptive information comprises sending at least one of i) a header comprising the descriptive information and ii) a file that accompanies the media and that comprises the descriptive information.

8. A method according to claim 6, further comprising receiving information describing at least one of i) a frequency of presentation of the media, ii) a time of presentation of the media, iii) preceding content that precedes presentation of the media, iv) subsequent content that follows presentation of the media, and vi) demographic information describing the user.

9. A method according to claim 6, further comprising receiving storage information describing what media are stored for retrieval by the user'"'"'s communications device.

10. A device, comprising:

a processor communicating with a user interface stored in memory,

the processor receiving descriptive information that describes media and comparing the descriptive information to the stored set of user-defined criteria; and

if the descriptive information contains any criterion, then the processor stores the media in the memory,

wherein the stored media is targeted to a user'"'"'s communications device.

11. A device according to claim 10, wherein the processor receives at least one of i) a header comprising the descriptive information and ii) a file that accompanies the media and that comprises the descriptive information.

12. A device according to claim 10, wherein the processor retrieves the stored media and inserts the stored media into an insertion point.

13. A device according to claim 10, wherein the processor sends information describing at least one of i) a frequency of presentation of the stored media, ii) a time of presentation of the stored media, iii) preceding content that precedes presentation of the media, iv) subsequent content that follows presentation of the media, and vi) demographic information describing the user.

14. A device according to claim 10, wherein the processor adds additional criteria to the set of user-defined criteria based on comparison matches.

15. A device, comprising:

a processor communicating with a network interface and with memory,

the processor sending descriptive text to a user'"'"'s communications device that describes an advertisement, and

the processor receiving information describing comparison matches between the descriptive text and a set of user-defined keywords that are stored in memory of the user'"'"'s communications device.

16. A device according to claim 15, wherein the processor sends at least one of i) a header comprising the descriptive text and ii) a file that accompanies the advertisement and that comprises the descriptive text.

17. A device according to claim 15, wherein the processor receives information describing at least one of i) a frequency of presentation of the advertisement, ii) a time of presentation of the advertisement, iii) preceding content that precedes presentation of the advertisement, iv) subsequent content that follows presentation of the advertisement, and vi) demographic information describing the user.

18. A device according to claim 15, wherein the processor receives storage information describing what advertisements are stored for retrieval by the user'"'"'s communications device.

19. A computer program product storing computer code for:

storing a set of user-defined keywords;

receiving descriptive text that describes an advertisement;

comparing the descriptive text to the set of user-defined keywords;

if the descriptive text contains any keyword, then storing the advertisement in memory; and

if the descriptive text fails to contain any keyword, then discarding the advertisement,

wherein the stored advertisement is targeted to a user'"'"'s communications device.

20. A computer program product storing computer code for:

sending descriptive text that describes an advertisement to a user'"'"'s communications device; and

receiving information describing comparison matches between the descriptive text and a set of user-defined keywords that are stored in memory of the user'"'"'s communications device.
