Abstract

A method and system for Bluetooth® and Wireless LAN coexistence may include controlling wireless local area network (WLAN) communication and Bluetooth® communication in a coexistence system that handles at least a WLAN communication protocol and a Bluetooth® communication protocol based on time division multiplexing (TDM) and adaptive frequency hopping (AFH). Switching may occur between the WLAN communication and the Bluetooth® communication based on the TDM and the AFH. In one embodiment of the invention, the switching may occur adaptively. Notwithstanding, in instances where it may be determined that AFH is disabled, switching to TDM may occur. WLAN communication and/or Bluetooth® communication may be disabled or enabled based on a state of at the WLAN communication and/or the Bluetooth® communication. Use of the AFH may be enabled or disabled based on a link status of the WLAN communication and/or the Bluetooth® communication.

Claims

1. A method for providing wireless communication, the method comprising:

controlling wireless local area network (WLAN) communication and Bluetooth®

communication in a coexistence system that handles at least a WLAN communication protocol and a Bluetooth®

communication protocol based on time division multiplexing (TDM) and adaptive frequency hopping (AFH).

2. The method according to claim 1, comprising switching communication between said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication based on said TDM and said AFH.

3. The method according to claim 1, comprising adaptively switching communication between said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication based on said TDM and said AFH.

4. The method according to claim 1, comprising determining when said AFH is disabled.

5. The method according to claim 4, comprising switching to said TDM when said AFH is determined to be disabled.

6. The method according to claim 1, comprising enabling at least one of:

said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication, based on a state of at least one of;

said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication.

7. The method according to claim 1, comprising enabling use of said AFH based on a link status of at least one of:

said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication.

8. The method according to claim 1, comprising disabling use of said AFH based on a link status of at least one of:

said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication.

9. The method according to claim 1, comprising communicating via a coexistence interface, corresponding state information associated with said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication between a WLAN radio providing said WLAN communication and a Bluetooth®

radio providing said Bluetooth®

communication.

10. The method according to claim 9, wherein said coexistence interface comprises a 2-wire interface.

11. The method according to claim 9, wherein said coexistence interface comprises a 3-wire interface.

12. A method for providing wireless communication, the method comprising:

in a coexistence system utilizing at least a first wireless communication protocol and a second wireless communication protocol, controlling communication via said first wireless communication protocol and communication via said second wireless communication protocol based on time division multiplexing (TDM) and adaptive frequency hopping (AFH).

13. The method according to claim 12, wherein said first wireless protocol comprises wireless local area network (WLAN).

14. The method according to claim 12, wherein said second wireless protocol comprises Bluetooth®

.

15. The method according to claim 12, comprising determining whether said AFH is disabled.

16. The method according to claim 12, comprising switching to said TDM when said AFH is disabled.

17. A system for providing wireless communication, the system comprising:

one or more circuits that control wireless local area network (WLAN) communication and Bluetooth®

communication in a coexistence system that handles at least a WLAN communication protocol and a Bluetooth®

communication protocol based on time division multiplexing (TDM) and adaptive frequency hopping (AFH).

18. The system according to claim 17, wherein said one or more circuits switches communication between said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication based on said TDM and said AFH.

19. The system according to claim 17, wherein said one or more circuits adaptively switches communication between said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication based on said TDM and said AFH.

20. The system according to claim 17, wherein said one or more circuits determines when said AFH is disabled.

21. The system according to claim 20, wherein said one or more circuits switches to said TDM when said AFH is determined to be disabled.

22. The system according to claim 17, wherein said one or more circuits enables at least one of:

said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication, based on a state of at least one of;

said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication.

23. The system according to claim 17, wherein said one or more circuits enables use of said AFH based on a link status of at least one of:

said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication.

24. The system according to claim 17, wherein said one or more circuits disables use of said AFH based on a link status of at least one of:

said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication.

25. The system according to claim 17, wherein said one or more circuits communicates via a coexistence interface, corresponding state information associated with said WLAN communication and said Bluetooth®

communication between a WLAN radio providing said WLAN communication and a Bluetooth®

radio providing said Bluetooth®

communication.

26. The system according to claim 25, wherein said coexistence interface comprises a 2-wire interface.

27. The system according to claim 25, wherein said coexistence interface comprises a 3-wire interface.

28. A system for providing wireless communication, the system comprising:

one or more circuits, in a coexistence system utilizing at least a first wireless communication protocol and a second wireless communication protocol, capable of controlling communication via said first wireless communication protocol and communication via said second wireless communication protocol based on time division multiplexing (TDM) and adaptive frequency hopping (AFH).

29. The system according to claim 28, wherein said first wireless protocol comprises wireless local area network (WLAN).

30. The system according to claim 28, wherein said second wireless protocol comprises Bluetooth®

.

31. The system according to claim 28, wherein said one or more circuits determines whether said AFH is disabled.

32. The system according to claim 28, wherein said one or more circuits switches to said TDM when said AFH is disabled.
