Abstract

A method and system for providing financial services are described. The method and system include receiving financial information. The financial information includes financial transaction(s) of a user. The method and system also include determining financial advice based on the financial information. The financial advice indicates a change corresponding to the financial transaction(s). The method and system further include displaying the financial advice to the user.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for performing financial services comprising:

receiving financial information including at least one financial transaction for a user;

determining financial advice based on the financial information, the financial advice indicating a change corresponding to the at least one financial transaction; and

displaying the financial advice to the user.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the determining further includes:

determining at least one category for the at least one financial transaction based on the financial information;

determining the financial advice based on the at least one category.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the financial advice determining further includes:

ranking the at least one category, the ranking corresponding to an indication of a necessity of each of the at least one transaction.

4. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

graphically displaying at least a portion of the financial information to the user.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the graphically displaying further includes providing at least one graph indicating an amount spent in each of the at least one category for a particular time.

6. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

providing at least one reward corresponding to an indication that the user has followed the financial advice.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising:

receiving additional financial information after the financial advice has been displayed to the user; and

analyzing the additional financial information to determine whether the indication that the user has followed the financial advice exists.

8. The method of claim 2 wherein the financial advice includes a method for reducing at least one amount spent in at least one category by a particular amount.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein the method includes at least one substitute behavior for a particular one of the at least one transaction.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one transaction corresponds to at least one card.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the at least one card corresponds to a credit card.

12. The method of claim 10 wherein the at least one card corresponds to a PIN-based card for a portion of the at least one transaction and to a signature-based card for a remaining portion of the at least one transaction.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein the financial information includes an income of the user and wherein the financial advice determining further includes:

accounting for the income of the user.

14. The method of claim 1 wherein the displaying further includes:

displaying a character associated with the financial advice.

15. The method of claim 1 wherein the displaying further includes:

displaying the financial advice through a kiosk.

16. The method of claim 1 wherein the displaying further includes:

displaying the financial advice through a user'"'"'s personal computing device.

17. A computer-implemented method for providing financial services comprising:

receiving background financial information;

receiving financial information related to a plurality of financial transactions for a user, the financial information indicating a purchase place and amount for each of the plurality of financial transactions, the plurality of financial transactions corresponding to at least one card;

graphically displaying to the user the financial information for a particular time period in response to a query from the user;

placing the plurality of financial transactions in a plurality of categories based on the purchase place and amount;

determining financial advice based on the financial information and the plurality of categories, the financial advice including at least one method for reducing an amount spent in at least one category of the plurality of categories in response to at least one of the query or an additional query from the user;

displaying the financial advice to the user in response to a query from the user;

receiving additional financial information related to an additional plurality of financial transaction; and

providing at least one reward corresponding to an indication that the user has followed the financial advice.

18. An executable software product stored on a computer-readable medium containing program instructions for providing financial services, the program instructions for:

receiving financial information including at least one financial transaction for a user;

determining financial advice based on the financial information, the financial advice indicating a change corresponding to at least a portion of the at least one financial transaction; and

displaying the financial advice to the user.

19. The executable software product of claim 18 wherein the determining instructions further includes:

determining at least one category for the at least one financial transaction based on the financial information;

determining the financial advice based on the at least one category.

20. The executable software product of claim 19 further comprising:

providing at least one reward corresponding to an indication that the user has followed the financial advice.

21. The executable software product of claim 19 wherein the financial advice includes a mechanism for reducing at least one amount spent in at least one category by a particular amount.

22. The executable software product of claim 21 wherein the mechanism includes at least one substitute behavior for a particular one of the at least one transaction.

23. The executable software product of claim 18 wherein a portion of the at least one transaction corresponds to a stored value card for and a remaining portion of the at least one transaction corresponds to a credit card.

24. An executable software product stored on a computer-readable medium containing program instructions for selecting and presenting a route to a user, the program instructions for:

receiving background financial information;

receiving financial information related to a plurality of financial transactions for a user, the financial information indicating a purchase place and amount for each of the plurality of financial transactions, the plurality of financial transactions corresponding to at least one card;

graphically displaying to the user the financial information for a particular time period in response to a query from the user;

placing the plurality of financial transactions in a plurality of categories based on the purchase place and amount;

determining financial advice based on the financial information and the plurality of categories, the financial advice including at least one method for reducing an amount spent in at least one category of the plurality of categories in response to at least one of the query or an additional query from the user;

displaying the financial advice to the user in response to a query from the user;

receiving additional financial information related to an additional plurality of financial transaction; and

providing at least one reward corresponding to an indication that the user has followed the financial advice.

25. A system for providing financial services comprising:

at least one input for receiving financial information including at least one financial transaction for a user;

a memory for storing the financial information;

a processor for determining financial advice based on the financial information, the financial advice indicating a change corresponding to at least a portion of the at least one financial transaction; and

providing the financial advice for display to the user.
