Abstract

A program guide is displayed which lists the availability of information for a program listed in the guide, where such information is obtained from a source accessible through the Internet, where the guide uses first color to indicate the availability of such information and a second color when such information is not available.

Claims

5-1. The method of claim 1, comprising the step of using an icon said indication.

6. A method comprising the steps of:

generating a displayable guide comprising information for a first program from a first source and a second program which is stored in a local storage device;

indicating in said guide whether information related to said first program and information related to said second program is available through an Internet based connection.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising the steps of:

requesting information related to at least one said first program and said second

program through said Internet based connection from a second source; and

receiving requested information from said second source.

8. The method of claim 6, additionally comprises the step of using a first color to indicate the availability of information related to said first program, and a second color indicate that such information related to said first program is not available.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein said first source is a broadcast source and said second program is stored on a disc which is played in said local storage device.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein said displayable guide additionally comprises information of a third program from a second broadcast source.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising the steps of:

requesting information related to at least one of said first program and said second program through said Internet based connection from a second source;

and receiving requested information from said second source as JAVA compatible code.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein said local storage device is capable of playing Digital Versatile Discs (DVD).
