System and Method for Video Recording, Management and Access
First Claim
1. A video and data recording, management and access system comprising:
- a customer network operable to video-graphically record an activity and to generate data from the activity, wherein the customer network comprises a video camera to generate video images of the activity and a data collection device adapted to collect data from external devices related to the activity, and wherein the customer network is operable to transmit the video images and the data using a communications network;
a data center coupled to the customer network using the communications network, wherein the data center is operable to receive, store and process the video images and the data from the customer network, and wherein the data center hosts a data processing application; and
a user network coupled to the customer network and the data center using the communications network, wherein the user network operates the data processing application to access, manage and control the video camera, the data collection device, the generated video images and the generated data.

Abstract
A server-based hosted application used to transmit and manage multiple media across the Internet. Digital video recorders (DVRs) collect media (such as video with or without audio) and record it to a local disk. DVRs are located in sites or stores where they are attached to cameras, microphones and point-of-sale (POS), or other data collection devices. The DVR accesses the Internet through a typical “residential” broadband connection. A hybrid peer-to-peer network allows peers (a DVR and an Internet browser) to directly transmit and receive video and audio (and other information, such as POS data). A hosted infrastructure tracks the presence of DVRs. A server-based application exposes a presence database to users. Users find DVRs via an Internet interface. Viewers can then connect to the DVR and its corresponding media collection devices (such as cameras, microphones and POS devices) and control collection and use of media information directly.

15. A method for recording, monitoring and accessing video and data, the method comprising:
-
invoking a server-based application from a remote workstation; requesting data analysis which initiates video lookups; identifying video segments in response to the request, the identified video segments being stored on DVRs located at one or more locations; transmitting the identified video segments from the DVR to the server-based application; and displaying the identified video segments embedded within the server-based application. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22)
